ferreter.al 22
i have a 3/4 cocker 1/4 russel, quite when working but then sings like a fat lady when on her quarry,i know where she is and the lurcher is readying itself waiting for a bolt,a must if you ask me spit and image of my cocker bitch, could be her in the pic....as for original poster most terriers we use sound, patx russels, russels, lakies, pats majority sound on all quarry,it good because like you say gives lurcher heads up but can sometimes land you in it when you are creeping up back of farm yard and drop on.lol Quote Link to post

samba 534
most types of terrier will give voice when on quarry given the work day after day seen a mates mams pet westie do this job well but you wont go far wrong with a good working plummer and there are some out there despite the knockers had some great days out with plummers bushing through the day and they will sure let you now whats about Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,322
good luck if you go for a plummer. make sure its bred from workers and you will get a better chance of a good n. my best on top is from the outcross stuff. its like a little hound. not much is missed Quote Link to post

The Adare show in Limerick about 13/14 years ago was full pups from every working terrier type crossed with pom, just a fad at the time i suppose, but they do make a loud brazen little f#cker Quote Link to post
damo 8
My Bedlington dog sounds like the Hound of the Baskervilles when he's onto something - but only if he has it in sight. My little black bitch yips when she's on a hot scent, and changes to a more shrill yap when she see it. Her sounding in cover is actually proving to be more of an asset than a hinderence. HES A REAL NICE BIG STRONG LOOKING DOG,WHAT LINE IS HE FROM. Quote Link to post
manspade 3
interesting read guys, im lucky in the fact my terriers work with hounds and im able to run them with them so they pick up that speaking thing quiet quickly. Still i think if you have a dog that does it all by its self runnig a pup on with he or she has its advantages and plenty of encouragement when its happening. It doesn't hert to get excited( vocal that is) the dogs feel it through you, so a bit of yippin and hollarin wont go a miss. I really dont think it matters what color the terrier, they all do it if its in them. atb boys happy hunting Quote Link to post
awen 29
got 2 russels and a pat, the pat has a good voice above ground where as the russels will stay quite and may yap if chasing Quote Link to post
