springfield 20
My mate had a 23" bed/grey X whip/greyxdeerhnd/grey,Cracking dog good determination,And of a good breeding. He was fit as a flea and in tip top condition and would regularly bag 20+,30+ up and till age 5,Whilst out lamping one night caught 46 and the ground we were on was boiling. And the dog still wanted to go on,Then all of a sudden collapsed,Never was the same and had fits there after had to be homed as a pet.He was the type of dog you could run to death.100 RABBITS WITH ONE DOG ALONE NO OTHER DOGS TAKEN OR SWAPPED ITS NOT POSSIBLE. Think your last statement is probably right there mate, lurcher work has changed so much over the last 10 years, todays dogs arnt bred to do numbers, scores like 46 are a hell of an achievment for one dog nowerdays, but they are a long way off 100..I only hope individuals dont go crazy pushing dogs to try and do bigger numbers than what they can cope with...Ive seen dogs collapse, never run properly again or even have to be burried because of the lamping game Forget the 100 rabbits with one dog, for 99.9% of the dogmen in the country, its not going to happen Quote Link to post

Guest whitser
i asked a similar question a last year after reading posts about minshaws taking huge numbers in one night. lads came on and assured me me it can be done. i would have to see it to believe it. but then again if i got 20 slips in a night i'd be happy. heart of wales 19
In my opinion 100 rabbits could be acheived but the dog would have to go through a programme of training leading up to the feat, such as being fully fit at the begining of the season, then catching numbers nightly for the period of weeks, increasing as the months go on until up to ultra shit off a brick fit,had a whippet beddlington who took 45 in one night, but he wasnt just fit he was as sharp as a dagger, two of the 45 he caught he was running after rabbits which run five feet past squaters he left the runner without breaking stride dived down and picked up the squater. For numbers the dog must also look to retrieve as fast as he can possibly carry the rabbit. He wasnt out of any named breeding had him for nothing at 12 weeks old from a scrap yard Quote Link to post
nighttimenellie 4
Some of the best posts i have read on here ,on this thread, from Doxhope and Tomo, ran minshaw dogs myself best total 96 rabbits(2 dogs, would have carried on if i had known the total but we had just gone for a muck about when a good night broke out), 100 has been done but nowadays i think it would be realy hard as i doubt there is a rabbit left in britain that doesnt get a lamp swished over it and therefore learns the dangers of the white night light I now run a little collie cross dog, that will catch low thirties on a good night but will get you mid twenties every night(5 nights a week) she is the first dog i owned after retiring the minshaw dogs and it was realy hard , as she was finished for the night just as my other dogs would have been getting warmed up, it was a right culture shock.and for a while i honestly thought there was something wrong with her, as i couldnt understand how a dog could be tired after so few rabbits, but its just the way she is. Any way respect to all the lads that went out and did it, its a magical number for any dog to take, and even a very very good haul for 2 dogs, but for one runnig solo, no rest , its incredible, great dogs and dedicated dogmen, the best mix.
