Off to a good start

Recommended Posts

Had our first trip out for the roe bucks on Sunday and had a blinder of a day, after putting up a new highseat and taking down 2 others for inspection and repair we had a look about, the other half ladystalker spotted a buck in a small wood so of we went for a closer look he was no where to be seen but a young munty doe paid the price for stopping for a look after we put her up.

We then made our way over to the other side of the shoot and spotted a couple of young bucks with a doe laying up against a hedge so a short stalk to get position and by this time one of the bucks was on his feet which was taken by the o/h up gets the other and that was taken also.

Then it was down to the wood where l left the o/h and went of up to the top of the wood for a look about 10 minutes later l heard a shot and a young munty buck had met his maker, nothing showing at the top of the wood so l made my way back to the o/h, as we was talking about the munty buck 2 roe came out about 300 yds away so l went for a closer look as the light was starting to go, they turned out to be a couple of nice looking does but l had noticed a group of roe by another small wood further down the field so of l went.

They was tucked into the edge of the field and after making a couple of hundred yards on them l had to crawl in the last bit still not knowing if there was a buck among them l had only seen glimpses of them up to this point, they was all together about 50 yds away and sure enough there was a buck which eventually broke away and came towards me and paid the price for his territory marking and fraying on the young trees.

So the buck cull of to a good start and a bit in the freezer which was starting to look a bit empty.
