Which moderator for 17hmr ?

Has anyone tried or got a Pes mod on their HMR ive read they are the best on the market at the moment and the Jms arms site looks very good they are priced between £135-£198 over barrel type or screw on barrel type i have a pes on my 223 and its better than my friends wildcat on his 223 just need more opinions please.

 

 

I make no pretense the Wildcat is the best mod on the market but it isn't bad IF you have the right Baffle Stack size, many people don't. I would be very confident that if the .22 Stack was fitted on the P8 it would edge the PES in sound reduction.

 

Let me say I am no fan of Andrew Banner (Wildcat) and I think his Whisper is overpriced rubbish which he has done a great marketing job on and persuaded people to part with loads of money for a mod that is worse than a SAK!

 

BUT the P8 isn't bad, either financially or with all it's options, and weight wise it isn't bad either if you get the COMPACT version (same Baffle stack as full version, just a smaller tube).

 

Not used a PES on the HMR but did try £300+ ASE on mine and it was no better than the SAK to my ear!!

 

The HMR presents a dilema on mods, there simply isn't a great one, and don't expect that spending a fortune on a HMR mod will serve you well, it will simply bring a tear to your eye when you realise how much you just wasted!!

Ok thanks for that Deker, im not having a dig at Wildcat mods in anyway before anyone might think so just saying my Pes is less noisy than the wildcat my friend has on the 223's and was wondering if the same could be said in the Hmr mods as in this range they are both about the same price,Also does anyone know if the wildcat whisper over barrel will fit on a Anschutz 1517 14" barrel its the heavy barrel type. Thanks for the replies.

The Whisper at about £125 isn't as good as the SAK at about £35!!

I have only just exchanged my ASE Utra for a wildcat Moderator.

I was very pleased with the noise reduction on the ASE Utra and the more it was used the quieter it seemed to be.

The only negative being that it is quite heavy.

 

So decided to get the wildcat as it an over the barrel moderator thus not being as long as the ASE when fitted to the barrel.

But as i have nt got the wild cat then i unfortunately can not give you my verdict.
