I didn't know you could still use dogs for foxes? How is this done?

The maximum of two terriers are used to flush fox's from their earth to be shot for only the protection of game birds.

nearly right, only one dog to ground or 2 flushing from cover on top. 2 to ground would be illegal

If the urban fox comes into my garden. My dogs jump the pen and kill it.Who,s at fault

Nobody of course, the act doesn't allow for 'accidental hunting' so when there is no 'intention' to pursue quarry with your hounds but they do then the law is on your side basically. But its not that black and white. For instance, if you were ratting in your garden with your dogs and suddenly a fox bolted from behind your garden shed and the dogs nailed it in the confines of your garden, provided you didnt intentionally hunt the fox you are not guilty.

as above talking to chicken farmers where we have permission to control the fox with the terriers.

they also let lads control them with rifles, for the last few seasons we have,nt been getting as many with the terriers.

The point im getting at is there,s controlling, but when the shooting lads are out 5 times a week, its looks like they wipeing

the population of foxes out completely,in a 5 mile radius they shot nealy a 100 foxes!

WHATS EVERYONES VIEWS ON THIS

cheers

I'm not posting this to get in an argument with anyone, so anyone looking to start one with me can save their breath.

I would presume the chicken farmer gave you permission to control the foxes in his area, right? Now as you've said he's also given the rifle men permission, to do the same job. It's evident to me that the chicken farmer doesn't want foxes around his area, and likely for sound reasons.

It's my view that the people using the farmers land should respect his wishes, or not go there.

From what you say on how many foxes ye're not getting, and taking it from the farmers point of view, he likely thinks the foxes are well controlled. Regardless of what me, you or anyone else thinks, at the heel of the hunt it's the farmer who'll make the decision on whether there are too many foxes or not.

The practicalities of it are that rifles will account for more foxes than dogs will. That is not to discount the usefulness of dogs against foxes, it's just the fact of the matter.

I hope you can find some extra permission where you'll have more luck

control is fine if there is need to. I dont enjoy lamping though with a rifle even for control. I go after vermin with dogs because i like to have a bit of sport whilst doing the control and enjoy seeing dogs work.

What really pisses me off is when you see/read/hear about blokes that have some sort of vendetta against the fox and take every opetunity to wipe them out.
