nelly 1 2
as above talking to chicken farmers where we have permission to control the fox with the terriers. they also let lads control them with rifles, for the last few seasons we have,nt been getting as many with the terriers. The point im getting at is there,s controlling, but when the shooting lads are out 5 times a week, its looks like they wipeing the population of foxes out completely,in a 5 mile radius they shot nealy a 100 foxes! WHATS EVERYONES VIEWS ON THIS cheers N
atuddy 179
its bad but what can we do about it its like that were i have permission
danw 1,748
I would think mate that 100 foxes in a 5 mile radius won't even touch the sides of the fox population their are three estates bordering each other here and it totals 7000 acres last year between the 5 keepers we accounted for 341 fox and we all hammer them every year yet the numbers killed are fairly consistent. danw 1,748
Thinking about it if they shoot all the resident fox then after that it is all incomers so that could be why there is less to dig and if they do lamp that much it could keep the fox moving with all the disturbance

whippeter69 88
For a valid view, you need to look at 2 side of the subject. If you were a keeper or farmer just coming into the lambing season or have just had pheasant poults deliver to you for the forth coming season and you need a few foxes culled because you would like to have a successful lambing or pheasant season, you would hire a rifle man to kill as many foxes as he sees on the piece of land that you own, you would do this because the rifle man will kill more fox's than any other method in a short period of time. On the other hand, if you had a pack of terrier men to kill a few foxes, they would enter the land, find a occupied fox earth and they would maybe kill one vixen and a litter of cubs and a dog fox( Remember the time of year lambing season, round about the same time as fox's give berth to cubs). So thats estimated 6 fox's less on the farmers/gamekeepers land in the future. DIfferent methods of control have their benefit's. If i was a farmer looking for the best method of control of fox's i would hire a rifle man.
Catcher 1 639
Its the urban foxes population that is growing.I have them in my garden almost every night.Driving my lurchers nuts. The urban fox will cause problems in years to come.Wonder who will get the blame then ? Nik_B 3,790
I didn't know you could still use dogs for foxes? How is this done?
whippeter69 88
I didn't know you could still use dogs for foxes? How is this done? The maximum of two terriers are used to flush fox's from their earth to be shot for only the protection of game birds.

If you arent getting any sport because someone is doing the job better than you then go elsewhere. I shoot and us terriers to controll foxes, we have been doing it in this country for decades and we havent wiped them out yet - nor will we. One mans sport is another mans vermin. If i never read another one of these dogmen vs shooting men threads it would be too fecking soon. Its childish, immature, unsportsmanlike and of no benefit to either side of the argument.
