owendbowendb 132
Thinking of converting the shed at end of the garden for the dogs and putting a run and roof on the side , has anyone done this before and was it any good. thinking of getting some kingspan and plying it out and maybe a heat lamp for the winter. its a 6 X 4 shed and not brand spanking but does the job. dogs live in at the moment but got a little one on the way in august so have promised to sort a run out witch is fair enough. just wandering if i should bite the bullet and buy a special dog run and kennel off the internet instead. if so what suppliers you lads have used ? and a good value for money kennel. cheers
sandymere 8,263
I used a wooden shed at our last house, built kennels inside so the dogs could warm a smaller area in the cold weather, with adult dogs in this sort of set up I've never had to use heating in the south of England. Good bedding, draught free and dry does the job.
skycat 6,174
A wooden shed's as good as anything: depending on where you live and how exposed you are you could insulate it with expanded polystyrene fitted between the uprights, ditto the roof and then cover with ply. Cut a pop hole in one side, preferably not the door as that will weaken it a bit and site it not facing directly into the prevailing wind/rain. Put a roof on the run as well: helps to encourage the dogs not to mess/pee in the shed.
woodga 170
not long finished my kennels, i have doors inside the shed giving access to their sleeping quaters when i need to change their bedding. iv incorporated a channel in the runs so all the crap can be hosed straight into the sewer now it only takes a couple of mins to clean out the runs wish id done it years ago
