JackReid 35
Hello all, Arriving at the farm for a late morning/early-mid afternoon shoot as I was working at 5-close, we tried to follow up with a good hunt following the day befores mooch. I immediatley went to find my rabbit I hid in a tree, and.... it had gone. Obviously I wasnt totally amazed that it had gone but in the past hidden up in a tree was ample to keep foxes and birds alike from it. However it was gone so I assume a buzzard or something took it as a free lunch. So that was the crow baiting out the window, it was also very windy, so after a target or two to get out those first flyers I headed off with the crow decoy to just put it out and see how I felt about it. After about 15 minutes I decided it just wasnbt going to be a go so left it. Meanwhile Hugo and Dylan went their seperate way for an hour or so while I walked about in the sunshine. Came round a corner and froze, a pigeon about 20 meteres away (very very rare to end up one over a pigeon on this farm and it not fly instantly) so crosshair on and as I took the first stage on the back of its head it flew. Oh well. Edited April 6, 2010 by JackReid Quote Link to post
JackReid 35
Creeping along a hedgerow like this, I was intending to catch the odd rabbit off guard out in the glorious sun. One ended up catching me off guard and took off from the hedgerow when I was about a metre away. Wouldnt have been able to get a shot even if I saw it to be honest was too far in. What I did see however was a magpie come in. Have never shot a magpie as they arent common on the farm but are increasingly active this year. So I froze, and yes...it landed, up in a tree about 40 metres away, usually just under 2 mildots holdover, but was an a big slant so I knocked that down to just under one and let the pellet fly. Saw the pellet snap a twig about 1 cm above its head and it took flight. Had to be a rushed effort but probably the combination of such an extreme slant and maybe over judged distance meant I held over just 1cm too much. Once again, oh well, this wasnt a frustrating shoot I was having fun. I carried on my walk about and wondered where the others were and eventually found Dylan as a monkjack deer came sprinting out past us. He said him and Hugo had been messing about with a hide in one of the largewr fields in a busy corner, not so much to use today but maybe the next day or two. So headed down for a mess about and chat to their hide which hugo had nustled into nicely! Edited April 5, 2010 by JackReid Quote Link to post

After a quick plink at some knots in the trees around I noticed straight away I was shooting about an inch and a half out????? I had been pretty careful to not knock the gun as usual, and even so it has held zero well i nthe past with other scopes?? Hmmm... I did what I could in the high winds and thought I will get back on it tomorrow and put it down to when I got caught on some barbed wire? Nudged the scope reticle then? I have it all quite far back so that may have aided it. Quote Link to post

JackReid 35
And a kill follows... We're heading out bit later on and although the suns not out and the winds up we may be up for another good one and I'll sort my zero out. Jack Edited April 5, 2010 by JackReid Quote Link to post

This looks a nice spot for a rabbit ambush, you could knock a couple off when they hop out to eat Quote Link to post
