Fell hound

Recommended Posts

do they still exist? what are they like? size, build, speed, endurance handle etc.

Pops , there are lots of fell and fell cross hounds on this side of the pond, Pm if you want to use a stallion hound, depending on where you are i might be able to put you on to one.

PS in terms of what they're like , a much bigger rangier trialing Walker, lots of drive , independent , generally quick, but much more handleable than a Walker

Pops some of the foxhounds i have owned were fell hound crosses this I beleive made them taller a bit lighter boned and a bit more independent. they had plenty of hunt wether they had more or less than a straight foxhound its hard to say as my last foxhound was a straight foxhound and he was as good as any Ive seen.

The type of fox hound I had was modern english type just in case your wondering

I hunted my foxhounds on hare, fox, deer and roo I tryed them on pig but they were pretty useless giving tongue on the trail of a boar just drove them away. Which ment when they did stop a boar it was miles away. So fine for fur no good fdor brissell.

thanks. exactly how tall did it make your hounds? were they faster than a straight foxhound?

About 27 inchs to the shoulder and they would have been a little quicker than my straight foxhunds they kept the fell hound hind quaters which I think helped them in the hills i hunt in.When I get back home I"ll try and find some old photos for you.
