Tom Pickering 28
went to kelmarsh today and there were a few debating the rules of the simulated courseing so could some one please explane the rules it doesnt bother me i enter for fun but as you know some do take it sereous cheers malc I was at Kelmarsh aswell sunday - I wouldn't say I take it serious as I never moan if my dogs get knocked out..( not out loud anyway) I've found that results usually balance themselves out - sometimes you havn't got a clue how you got through, then others how the bloddy hell you got knocked out. I think from a spectators point of view or competitors - the number of gates completed is probably the best way to race with regards to arguments or questioning the judges decisions. But others argue to say that isn't always the best coursing dog. I see something with a video camera and dog being knocked out on sunday but wasn't to sure what the crack was their. Hope you didn't think the judge wasn't too bad on sunday I had 2 of my dogs in the final 3. Probably not much help just my opinion - ATB Tom Quote Link to post

And everyone who posts talking about it has to point out they don't take it serious!!! BTW, just an observation on my part, I'd never do it even for fun lol... Quote Link to post

chartpolski 24,156
I've never ran a Lurcher in simulated coursing, (I once ran a KC Whippet in a display, slipped by a Waterloo Cup slipper), but I once enquired about running a little Lurcher bitch I had. The organiser said she would have to wear a muzzle; I said the dogs didn't wear muzzles in the Waterloo Cup or the Forley, and declined to enter ! Anyway; from watching it, it appears that a dog who runs "smart" will not win, if a dog follows the lure thru' the "gates", it will win ! Bit of a waste of time in my oppinion, neither the fastest or smartest dog wins !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
watchman 256
i watched it,seems to me the lure is to fast, causing the dogs to cut the corners out totally, and head for the home straight,so not sure how that is judged, watched it a few years back when the lure was on a turn they had straw bales on the corners seemed a lot fairer, but as i dont show or enter the simulated then i dont give a f**k and if you enter you should not give a f**k either, you all say its only a bit of fun, yeah right, Edited April 6, 2010 by watchman Quote Link to post

jack68 628
can i just say why would you let ur hunting lurcher the dog you love, the pot filler run a rag, at a summer show the risk of knocked toes ripped spoppers your dog starting to sing [ yap its head of when running] just for a rosette to clip too its coller [bANNED TEXT] you walk round the show on three legs. you can keep ur rag racing. thats just me you crack on mate... huntingalltheway 2
i think for each gate the dog goes through correctly he gains a point the one with most points at end of course goes through. so its all about following the lure correctly, you find the dog who can catch up with the lure first in the course has high advantage of correctly following where as in the slower one usually cuts gates to gain on the lure to catch up so it rubbish for comparisons for working ability as ive noticed fast and thick dogs normally thrive in simulated coursing but surpose its something to keep dogs in as much shape through summer. hope this helps Edited April 6, 2010 by huntingalltheway Quote Link to post
