appleblossom 687
Its good for the ego, if you dont take it too seriously. Also if you work all week and are to tired to work your lurcher, which in our case is, the shows are a great form of relaxation at the weekends.Through the lurcher, terrier and whippet shows and clubs over the years we have made so many good friends in the Kanine fraternity, and have met people from all over the globe, and from all walks of life. Whatever turns you on. Quote Link to post
MR BROOK 165
Just a bit of fun in the summer. However I do agree that some people take them too seriously. they do,they'd be better off getting into poodles and the like and stop bringing down the standards of working stock. LOL Im sorry i thought someone said that showing is bring down the standards of working stock That is funny Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
If showings their game so wat i think most of the gripeing comes from lads who go to a show with a good working lurcher then get the tity lip on [bANNED TEXT] they dont win a roset. The few who i have come across who like the shows their dogs have always been well looked after And for the life of me i carnt get my head around why anybody would parade around a public event with an heavily marked up lurcher is beyond me. tb25 4,627
what is peoples obsession with showing there lurchers at game fairs? i dont see the point i have my dogs to work not prance round a ring. so any info on the logic on this would be much appreciated. sorry if ive offended any one.but this is my point of view. Shows are just something to do in the summer months, meet friends have a crack, some people work and show their dogs, some only work them but many dont work them so what, working dog owners move in their own circles, breed from workers or mates workers for what they require, not interested in looks. I have always had lurchers to work but many years ago I was fortunate to have a beautiful looking good worker so In the summer I showed her with some success, if I won great, if i didnt I enjoyed the day out. For the past 20 years I have had non show type but still go for the crack, I have made many good friends all over the country, some show people, many workers. Also if you look back prior to the Hunting Ban more showing people wrote letters, marched and supported financially and otherwise our lurcher work than actual working people, and I dont mean on percentage of show to working owners, many working people did their own thing, ban or no ban. So live and let live. Theres room for us all and if all the lurchers owners worked their dogs, there would be less game for us . hahaha. Cheers WR. well said Quote Link to post
Trigger 26
each to there own i suppose. i have never brought a dog yet because of its looks, and i certanly dont buy a dog because he/she or the parents have one loads of rosets. Quote Link to post

littlefish 587
So some people like to parade their dogs at shows in the summer, so what? The bit I can't understand is the fully grown blokes who come on here crying about it when their dog does not win a rosette Quote Link to post
