Sako Quad .17HMR

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of buying a .17HMR Sako Quad synthetic.

Im alittle bit sceptical about the fact that barrels are interchangeable. Can anyone reassure me as to the accuracy with these?

Or is there a quad version that you can buy with a fixed barrel??

I have no intentions of changing barrels and am wanting the quad as it is very similar to my .22 Finnfire.

All advice welcome

So was I a couple of years ago, actually I had it on order but GMK were out of stock and waiting a delivery....in the mean time the first CZ Silhouette HMR arrived in the UK...job done, never regretted getting the CZ for a moment.

Nothing wrong with the Sako Quad as such, but it doesn't stack up in the money stakes in comparison with the CZ and doesn't shoot any better!

I'm probably just getting old, but I don't rate the quad as good as the Finnfire, the old Hunter was a classic!

Hey

I own a 17hmr Quad, Its performance and accuracy and build quality are second to none.

Yes it is more expensive than a CZ but this doesnt mean it will be more or less acurate.

Dont be put off by the interchangeable barrels. Once they are in they will not become lose or affect acuracy in any way .

Hope this helps.

I've 1 and there no different to any other 17hmr chap, the only quarm i have is when i change barrels i have to take my scopes off but this would be sorted if i put higher mounts on it.The 17 and the 22 mag are the same magazine as is the 22rf and the 17 mac so there no confusion there regards burnie.

Not 100% true there. Barrles can come lose if not fitted right,

But So long as you get a good gunsmith to change the barrle and have it fitted right then there is no problems, inface i would go for the quad just for that reason alone " over the " CZ " if my mem is right, the quad has a nice action and is very easy to work on also,

I say Go for it mate.

You don't need a Gunsmith to change the barrel on Quad, although I suspect he would be grateful of the ££ for 30 seconds work!!

TBH I wouldn't be too concerned, Sako are a good bunch as far as I can make out, but if you're worried about the barrel change issue and want it fixed, then I'd go for the Anschutz, same performance, better build quality IMHO- I didn't like the triangular plastic bolt knob and the plastic trigger guard, so I went for the Anschutz- can't go wrong, but as for how they shoot, I don't thing there'll be much of a difference, but for peace of mind I'd go with a fixed barrel option, and as far as I'm aware, there is no fixed barrel quad available- the "quad" bit was the selling point!

Cheers

Errrm. No. None of that is correct. Sorry.

The barrel doesn't come loose. You release a barrel by means of an Allen key, and re-tighten by the same method. Gunsmith does not have any reason to go within an asses roar of it, unless something is broke.
