but I am fairly sold on the fact that out Merlin and Eve types are just an extension of saluki whic as some point out is just another lurcher from another land :clapper:

sorry richard ,merlin and eve an extension of saluki!!! dont know where you got that thinking!!!!

or did i misread it :hmm:

Cheers for your opinions and answers  regarding what I was stumbling towards in the above post was have we in the last 30 or so years done what the bedouins and arabs did centuries ago, ie create a 'breed/type' especially for running certain types of quarry on certain terrains, looking at a lot of the coursing types they appear to have so much saluki and I know that even today lads are putting well bred coursing stud dogs back to pure saluki bitches, pouring more saluki gene into the blodlines surely if this continues eventually saturation will reach 100% ie, deerhound, grey, beddy etc etc totally bred out leaving only a 'saluki' especially bred for the terrain we want em to run ie, fen.

Lol it might have come out a bit confusing but hopefully theabove will explain what I was getting at :clapper: either way who gives a monkey's I just pure saluki, uk bred, coo bred whatever way they come :victory: hopefully the ones you guys are fetching over will improve the gene pool, best of luck to you all, I cannot wait to see the results in the coming months

no thing wrong with importing stuff but only if bettert than you have at times , we have enough saluki lurchers now to put back into the saluks to make them betrithink so any way maybe im wrong

maybe that is the way to go whin :hmm: , put the best coursing dog tested to the hilt to a tested pure bitch and then hopefully the offspring will be sound then simply breed back to pure saluki each way, its an alternative to the import route and may just produce the desired results, who knows??

me personaly I have no interest in breeding, and am more than happy with what I have at present, but then again they only pups so I might feel different once he has had a season under his belt  doubt it though cos Im realistic about what he might and might not do  plus I got a decent bred coursing dog pup just in case :clapper:

what does it for me is all these imported breeds of saluks at moment were we have our own saluk here the saluki lurcher, better outcrossing to treid and tested stuff here than traveling paying big money for dogs that are maybe not as good as what we want, just to say IMPORTED SALUKI to me it sounds like a bit snobbery at times , as who has tested the imports parents etc over generaitions not guys like me for sure ,be some show guy with the odd coursing day or lure coursing day , ive saw the average saluki owner over in the states and ive see the odd keen hunter miles apart at times , just like your lurcher show guy and guys who hunt for to eat seell game whatever a big diffrence, i think that is the problem with saluks the ownership is not intended with hunting is the main goal , i rant on but can only say what ive seen at times

whin ,the reason people inport any livestock .is in there belief it will hopefully add something ..good to there gene pool and it can be a gamble ...but if you dont try youll never know ..life is about risk ..and minimise the risk by aquiring what you see as the best opption available ..not the same for everyone ..look faward whin ..not back ;)

I reckon Riohog Is the top saluki know it all on here..... You got to admire someone with that knowledge and passion for a breed.... :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

ffs whin ive answered all these questions before when you asked them i have absolutly no fekin idea what other people do regarding the soundness histsory or whatever with the dogs that have been imported into the uk ''the criterea i chose was the parents of my pup have taken game ,told you before i will not elaborate on that they are in europe as well you know they have the same restrictions as us ..and for f,,k knows how many generations the parent were bred from the best to the best available to hunt ,only hunt that is what these people do and have done for thousands of years dosent meen they are all exellent ,but there is a strong chance they will be ok but as i keep saying yeds its risky all the ingredients are there /or should be ....if you had anything to do with livestock you will know ,,nothing garantteed .......risk

Totally agree with you whin mate... too many prancers own salukis, using them as badges of honour. The KC etc has never helped a hunting breed yet to my knowledge.....

richard your talking about keep adding saluki and eventually coming back to 100% sal or at least thats what it says on the paperwork 4/5 gen mate and the paperwork has /may /or will say its saluki ,after all its only the breeders word when it goes to regestration :whistling:
