decoying with a air gun

Recommended Posts

i did it once with a old boy from my way but he was shooting with a 12 bore and he let them land and i shoot with the s410 when they were spooked and few off he would release the barrels

it was just to get me experience but it would work just not as many in the bag i guess

good fun if you get it right, need to be a good shot:thumbs:, only thing is hitting them through the stubble, nice to see them just slouch with wings spread when you hit them in the noggin:clapper:, handy to have a shotgun as back up in case they come in thick and fast , which is not very often:no:

i started decoying with an air gun last year. made a change. was really good because it was so quiet! pigeons would land in 3's i'd shoot one. the other 2 took off and landed again! was great fun. aiming was an issue as u HAVE to wait for them to land. altho one day i became so frustraited with decoy shy pigeons i managed to shoot one out of the air! i also made a prop, a piece of 2x1 battern with a cut v in the top. i took a saw with me to the field i wanted to shoot in, sat in place got comfy and cut it off to the correct length! You have to be a good shot, so practise alot! u have to be quick because once a pigeon lands u have roughly 1-2 seconds to take the shot befor it takes off again! and make sure u specify to the land owner that u will be useing a air gun for pigeon decoying! i had one piece of land over 1200 acres to shoot on last year. i did not specify that i would be using an air gun. now i cannot shoot the land anymore! i did say i would only come with my 12g from now on but it was too late the damage had been done. the land owner thought i would not kill the pigeons outright. to be honest i have clipped more pigeons with my 12g and watched them fly away than i ever will with my air gun! make sure your air gun is max strength. it does not serve to only wound pigeons. one more thing use a pointed pellet rather than a h point as thet will travel through the feathers.

hope that helps.
