dai dog 11
it depends on ones defenition of doing fox i think? i know that its not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog!, but i dont think so imoho! you would think that my little bitch would, cause she seems to be as gutsy as anything but come to the crunch, she doesent like to get bit!! but with another dog she will worry it, get in, stand off & get in again! that aint taking fox imo Quote Link to post
parkstone 24
Sooty Sam decendants do very well in the field (rabbits, rats, hares, the odd fox but whippets arnt natural fox dogs due to their lack of weight) they do well at lure coursing, But lack the top pace at racing. dai dog 11
i couldnt agree with you more parkstone whippets! im not saying that the odd exeption wouldnt take fox, i just think that to claim a certain line of whippets do and will take fox regularly is a little unbelieavable to me! are they doubled? not knocking them, just gagging to be proven wrong!! :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
blackpack 70
i brought my dog at 8 month old she,s sooty sams lines and yes she does take fox single handed not my choice but shit happens. ive posted pics but due to this and that they get taken off as i dont own a gun, Quote Link to post
MATTI 34
Some whippet's are game enough to tackle a fox but i personally would'nt use them for this job as some fox's are as big and heavy as a whippet there making it quite a fight for the dog, i'm not knocking whippet's in any way we used to have an ex racer who caught 3 hare's in front of what i thought was the best lurcher's i've had Quote Link to post

Guest oldskool
my idea of a good fox dog is one that can be relied upon to do a humane job.. death needs to be quick and i cant see that happening with a singlehanded whippet, there too small!! i've seen quite a few whippets (some have a touch of grey blood) game as anything imaginable!!! IMO, they are a good cross if you plan on crossing it to something bigger... Quote Link to post
parkstone 24
i just think that to claim a certain line of whippets do and will take fox regularly is a little unbelieavable to me! I totaly agree mate, mine have takled fox but I don't encourage it because whippets IMO arn't natural fox dogs. The trouble is some are sold on big claims? Pennymeadow Whippets 0
I have worked whippets for many years & imo whippets are not natural fox dogs but i have seen & owned exceptions Sooty Sam could do fox they are game for rabbits hares rats they also do well at Lure coursing but as Parkstone whippets said lack top class racing speed Quote Link to post
