Groach 7 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Share Posted March 31, 2010 Right i am getting a bit bored of my plane wooden stock on my CZ 452 hmr left handed now i dont really fancy stumping up a few hundred pounds for a synthetic stock as i don't think it is needed for the rifle but i like the look of the sort of nato green synthetic stocks. Is it possible to spray my wooden stock with nato green paint? if i did would it ruin the checkering? also has anyone tried this? and how did you do it and what did you think of the results? moxy 617 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Share Posted March 31, 2010 Wheather your stock is laquered or oiled will have a result on the finnish you aquire. If its laquered then you can sand it back, prime it with a couple of coats, paint it then finnish it with a good laquer or varnish. Giving you a paint job that will last and take some abuse. If its oiled the likeleyhood is that your paint will blemish as you may not get a good bond to the greasy woodwork. Over time the paint will lift and flake and as moisture gets in it will only get worse. Removing the laquer from the chequering will take the use of a good paint stripper, if you sand it you will remove it. To achive a good paint finnish on the chequering your primers, paints and laquers would need to be thinned right down, resulting in an application of many coats of each. I wouldnt do it personally, far too much time and effort involved to get a good result. You would need to spray and not apply with a brush and finely sand between each coat. This will create problems when you come to sanding your chequering. Look to buying a synthetic stock or perhaps getting a cheap wood stock to have a go on and practice the finnish. Quote Link to post

Unfortunatly the wood is some what bland and i had my hear set on a green synthetic stock i just love how they look but as a lefty they seem to be hard to come buy and the cost of a new stock could almost pay for a scope on my centerfire when (and if) i get it granted George Quote Link to post
