dont no one scruff foxes anymore

they are not saying if they do. whats all this about flicking dirt in there eyes.first time iv herd that.years ago we scruffed them all the time.

Yes mate, I'm talking years ago, in awkward places, when all you can get at, is the head, face on, if you cover the eyes it won't strike as you put your hand over the top to scruff it, worked for me a few times.

Sounds as if some lads are a little scared of scuffing the old fox and i think the safe handling of a fox is something anyone working a earth dog should be capable of.What do they do when a fox is netted and needs pinning down for a safe shot or if fox and dog need seperating or lifting out together?,first dig i was ever on this is what happened and i learnt there and then how important it is to be a team with your dogs as sometimes they need a little help and if your lacking in balls to "get in there with em" then the digging game ain't for you.

hello boys right a bolt gun for fox??WHAT THE F**K! come on think about it putting your hand down a hole where there is a fox that wants to bite you!!! go for a 410 youth alot better!!

i agree with the use of a forten pistol.very useful indeed.and there not very difficult to get licensed for,had the firearms people arnd last night to do a renewal and they said there would be no problem in being granted for the pistol as long as it u state that it is for use for rats in barns only.

He doesnt want to shoot rats  Mine is open for ALL humane despatch anywhere..Jesus dont any you lads get close to your foxes?? Some weird replies here

by the sounds ov some of the lads on here i think there a little bit cacky arse just put you hand and grab it or you dernt then a 243 would sort the job but stand back about 100 yards should just about do :whistling::whistling:

Back when I was young we didn't always have the use of a gun ,we had to pull them out in order to tap them with a pick axe handle.

30 odd years ago I was shown to turn the spade around and pin them against the side with the handle, then scruff them, slide them out and grab their back legs or tail, you can have a few problems if there's more than one in the hole though, but it does teach you some respect for the fox as you definitely don't get bitten twice,it also makes you realise the bravery of your terrier, atb, wirralman

There's all sorts of tricks mate, we also used to give 'em a stick to bite on while you sliped your hand in.
