Custom Stocking from a Turkish Walnut blank @ UKgunrepairs

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be interesting to show a photographic diary of a custom stocking process on a .17 hmr rifle. The action is a Ruger M77/17 and is fitted with a custom Krieger 17.5 inch barrel.

The chaps at UK-gunrepairs have previously pillar bedded my .204 ruger, that has in turn increased accuracy of the rifle, and i thought this would be an interesting insight into what goes on behind closed doors.

The rifle is being built by one of the partners at UK gunrepairs (Chris) which should turn out to be a real eye catching tac driver! I cant see why not as the action and barrel has been supplied to him by their business associates at Riflecraft, who do all of their rifle work and as yet not received anything apart from the very highest standard quality/craftsmanship.

The stock started of as a “blank†of Turkish walnut, the series of photos below are from receiving components, through the stock build and will in time include the final finishing of the stock and the 1st shooting session

***** SMALL UPDATE****

Sorry for the small delay in the replying, as for time scale in making the stock i think it will be around 4/5 days labour, that’s without adding the traditional London hand oiled finish. But remember that the rifle stock is a custom thumbhole that started off as a rectangle piece of Walnut blank, the action had to be measured precisely for inletting of the action, length and the other dimensions of the comb. The next will take less time...

Chris is now awaiting delivery of the Floorplate, there is a delay as they are on Back-order in the US........ anyways once that is in and fitted then the "finishing" will begin with a traditional hand oiled London finish. - Believe me that it is one beautiful piece of Walnut and will look absolutely stunning once finished. Of course pictures of the finished stock and first outing will follow when ready.

P.S the ukgunrepairs.co.uk website is now “live”, so please have a look on the below link

There is some interesting information on there about the partners at ukgunrepairs and makes some good reading.

Cheers Sam
