Patterdale pup

Recommended Posts

I personally wait until they're around 18 month - 2 years old before I allow them to go to ground, but I take them out when they're younger to see the other terriers work, and let them have a rag on the carcass once it's been dispatched of.

Best of luck with her.

That is good advice ATFT!

Alright, just wondering when to start my 5 month old Patteradle bitch going to ground, I have been told around 1 and half, your views please?

Regards Connor

ya between 15 and 18 months depends on the dog,but always give a handy first season.use the second season to test the dog then so you know what you have.

Myself 18 months would be the earlyest but like the lads said bring him along to watch your other terriers work and show him a pocket or two but not to many as he will think that is all he will ever have to do and get a fright when truely tested

we usually show them a fox in a stop end at around a year but only once or twice because then they think everything is only round corner and dont check proparly, then let her in to a small shallow bury at around 15 mnths and give her a few quick easy digs

all pups r different there is no sett age,i would normally ave my pups travelling empty burrows from around 10 months them let them c plenty of action but dont let them in on it till u think ther not pups anymore,i have dug pups as young as 12/14 months old but on the other hand ive had dogs that havent done anything until they were 2 an a half its all about knowing when ur pup is ready
