stroller 341
I Took the dogs out this morning and came to a sheep net fence with two strands of loose barbed wire which hangs just at the top of the sheep wire. the dogs jump this for fun and maggie who has only in the last few weeks started jumping wire usually clears it by a foot easy. anyway this morning i called her back over it towards me and as soon as she took off i new she wouldnt make it, she was too far away from it and she didnt jump it with her usual force. somehow she came down on top of it and her back legs went underneath the two strands of barbed wire and her body over the top so she is left dangling being held up by barbed wire. so now she is screaming her head off and me being only ten yards away rushes in falls and slides into the fence i managed to lift her off and bless her she didnt try to bite me even though she was in full panic by then. Fearing the worst i tipped her over onto her back and she only has the smallest scratch on her belly!! i was picturing puncture wounds or tears but thank God she was un harmed. Anyway the other dogs were all milling about on the other side of the fence so i put her on her feet and from a standing jump she cleared the fence by a foot. just checked her again when i got in and she is fine full of beans had her breakfast and is now back in the kennel with her mate. however i cant walk when i went down i twisted the knee that is being operated on next week Quote Link to post
southcott 9
OH Dear hope your knee goes ok My spaniel x collie has the run of the farm, and we came home one day to find him hanging between two strands of barb wire, not sure how long he was there, but it was down to the bone and pealed up the leg, and to make matters worse the feild gate was open, he could have used that a trip to the vets and £300 AtB Denise Quote Link to post
my hounds 307
STROLLER,I HAD SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR,ONLY MY DOG HAD HIS FRONT FEET ON THE GROUND(he is 29tts),PLUS AS LUCK HAD IT HE NEVER STRUGGLED.MY MATE LIFTED HIS BACK LEGS,AS I HELD THE BARBED WIRE DOWN.ME LIKE YOU EXPECTED HOLES/GASHES,BUT ONLY A FEW SCRATCHES THANKFULLY.HE CAN CLEAR A 5BAR GATE NORMALLY,THIS WAS LIKE YOUR DOG A MIS-JUDGED JUMP. ATB. (i have a feeling there are a few more replies to come) Quote Link to post

mike1458 14
I like the way that she cleared up from a standing start straight afterwards. Typical hey. At least she got a way unharmed, Like you siad, could have been worse. ATB Mike Quote Link to post
cooper101 86
gutted about your knee fella!! at least the dogs allright lol !! i seen it twice this season gone, with mine hes a great jumper but in the first occasion im not sure what happened he hit the top wire and luckily bounced back off and had another pop at it stupid dog !! then another time was a couple days later infact he jumped and cleared(a very half hearted jump mind) and his tail caught on the underside perfectly in the middle and made a two inch tear nothing major but enough to make him mean it when he jumps now!! you dont expect it of them after theyve jumped a few hundred times but we all make mistakes now and then!! good luck with the knee Quote Link to post
ian p 0
My beddy grey has had four or five trips to the vets, he peels like a banana when he goes in to wire. Got a full collie who has got stuck in it struggling and just the smallest scratch. He has skin as thick as leather Quote Link to post
wild rover 548
Sorry about the knee mate, glad the pup was ok, these things do happen, About 20 years ago my old bitch did similar, except she rolled all the skin down one leg like a sock, could have been worse, vet pulled her sock back up , stitched her up and she was off the run for about a month. You are knackered but you were before haha, Mags ok main thing haha, good to hear the experience never put her off jumping, some lesser crosses would not have attempted it again. Cheers WR.
