rickyspringer 15
just to comfirm my stance i don't know the rescue centres just heard off a friend of mine through chit - chat, and it is one hell of a coincidence.. Don't get me wrong i'm not painting all rescues with the same brush, most are amazing and are doing great..99 % of registered charitable rescues will be run spot on, but there is rescues out there which aren't rescues if that makes sense, people who are posing as do gooders, taking on any dogs for rehoming,no questions asked, and then marketing them as a rescue for a fee of £160 or something..These dogs aren't given the proper treatment, these dogs are £££££ makers, like alot of other dogs out there!! Makes my blood boil!!
tracyb -Doglost 2
PLEASE PM ME name of kennels. It will not go further than me- promise you that. Reason Why- I rescue out of kennels- council pounds. We vacinate all our rescue dogs. I know for a fact it wont be one of mine BUT it wont be the first outbreak of parvo either. I cant believe vet bill is £1000 thats ridiculous- even after been on a drip. Occasionally you will get kennels cough- its like our colds. Most dogs get it with the change in enviroment. Parvo- in theory - if all owners vax there dogs- even if its runs off and it picked up as a stray it shouldnt contract parvo- although there are different strains of it. Im sorry your mates lost dog but really would appreciate you pm me. Something happened a few months again in Yorkshire and the kennels were closed down after complaints from numerous places - including people who are members of this forum whos dog died. They were shut for nearly a month for cleaning. As for rehoming - I live in the real world -have most types/breeds/ available so if you are looking for dogs- let me know BUT they are all neutered, vax'd,chipped, wormed & frontlined before they go & I do homecheck. Guest chook
Anybody thinking of getting a dog from one of these places beware, acouple of weeks since bloke i work with his mrs went and paid hundred pound for a stray lurcher bitch.the dog had been in kennels ten days when she bought it on the sunday.monday the dog didnt seem right and she put it down to its new suroundings.tuesday the dog was worse so she took it to the vets, vet gave it a jab ant sent it home.wednesday worse still back to the vets on a drip wednesday and thursday, they put the dog down friday it had parvo, and to make things worse the dog they already had came down with kennel cough and is now looking at a vets bill of about a grand the bloke and his mrs not the other dog Sounds like a council pound, not a rescue centre, the council pounds are rife with alsorts, and you do take a risk when you take a dog out of them, with the help of trading standerds, they should be able to claim back at least the price they paid for the dog, but unfortunaly the rest they would probably have to take them to small claims court. tracyb -Doglost 2
Ok I am in better position to comment so without naming places. Most council pounds operate a 'Rehoming' Centre. The dogs are held for compulsory seven days then put up for homing. SOME will vaccinate, some dont, some microchip - some dont, The ones that charge a rehoming fee normally vaccinate- AND will provide you with proof of this be it on a card or a authorisation slip. Some will have vouchers to enable you to have dog neutered at reduced cost. Bearing in mind neutering costs minimum of £90 up to £200 around here - most dogs are not neutered. If a dog is picked up as a stray - its the OWNERS responsibility to have had that dog vaccinated and microchipped. If they had collars with tags on as they are supposed to by law -the pounds wouldnt be heaving. But thats another battle. Parvo has an inncubation period- its sods law that giving the vaccine may cause it. I will pm some of you individually, but if you council pounds have parvo, distemper and other infections REPORT THEM & get others to do same. They have a DUTY OF CARE to these dogs, the pounds get PAID to keep them. Some are crap. Im lucky the place I board my rescue dogs at - may as well plug the site as Im skint and got 6 dogs @ £5 a night boarding. Anyone able to help -even a bit Id really appreciate it. www.d-a-s-h.co.uk Well the kennel owner operates a pound as well- she provides heated kennels, new clean bedding daily, the dogs are all walked which is unheard of in a lot of pounds. The dogs not only have there food but they have a treat every afternoon - bought out of her own money. After 7 days she offers the dogs up for homing- she charges £100 and a neutering voucher for reduced cost neutering. Yes Im well aware of the fact she operates a bit different, but we both allow a 'trial' with a dog of a few days. We rarely have dogs come back- these are the lucky dogs - its not a million miles from Yorkshire or Doncaster. But where are the owners of these dogs? Why when we are trying to save about 40 - 70 a week just on the pounds I know do idiots still breed? Why do people dump staffies? Why do owners not vaccinate their dogs?
