how to teach a 3 year old lurcher to reatreive

is there anywon who can tell me the best way to learn a 3 year old lurcher to reative jump and all the reast.......

I have to ask the question, how the f**k does a three year old lurcher not know how to jump or retrieve, please explain, might give us a better understanding of what we are dealing with.

basicly someones givin it to me as a present cos i helped em out and i liked his bitch but it runs away when off the lead and i want to teach it obeadience for lamping

Good luck! I had a beddy whippet grey that kept f*****g off once. I gave him away in the end cos i was so bloody angry and frustrated with him and couldnt deal with it no more! I got him as an adult dog that had been (unbeknown to me) f****d up by the wanker i got him off. Every walk he got as soon as i opened the car door he headed for the hills, 2 hours later at end of the walk sit in car whistling for half hour before he turns up (if at all). I vowed then and still do that i will never take on an adult dog again. If its any good the owner would not be getting rid for ANY amount of money!

The only way your'e going to get anywhere with an adult dog is to take it back to step one: train as if it were an 8 week old pup, well, a bit older. Start with recall on lead, long lead of about 6foot. Retreive train the same way, though to be honest if you don't know what your'e doing (not trying to be nasty and I don't know you at all) then it's much more difficult to re train or train an adult dog that has maybe got loads of issues, than it is to train a pup.

How about contacting Jim Greenwood? He's the mutt's nuts when it comes to understanding dogs, their behaviour and believe me this guy will see thing in your dog that you would never have known, just by watching how it behaves. He'll also train you to train and work with the dog.
