Wild_and_Irish 11
My cousins owned a collie lab, class wee dog for about the farm, I watched her chase 2 rabbits round and round the house one day flipping them up one at a time so she wouldn't lose the other she would have been about 7 at that time aswell, was good at nabbing rats going in to the hens aswell. If I had the room I'd take one Quote Link to post
bird 9,936
it could make a good x for rabbits daytime, and easy bit of lamping but for faster stuff you would need a 2nd x. Some labs(working strain)can be quite racey, but still a heavy type dog (50-70lb), Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
Could go either way pal. W hy not stick to the more conventional lurcher, ie; colliexgrey, cant go wrong.. some labs are thick as shit, over weight, and numb! If you get a pup and it turns out not being what you want, it will just be another lurcher in the pound of unwanted dogs.. As for someone saying they had one and it was brainy, i dont doubt for one minute it wasnt but i'd bet it was the collie which made it that way. As collies are a very inteligent dog.... greyhounds and collies put together make steady dogs, a lab hasnt got the stamina of either of these two breeds.. think hard pal. have you any idea what you are talking about Why is that clint? because i have an opinion? sorry if you didnt like what i said... the question was asked what people knew about these kind of dogs...I am afraid to say that i do know what i am talking about, yes... I dont doubt for one minute that the picture of the dog which has been put up didnt excel in its work, and was a brilliant dog.. so why skint do you say what you said...i know of such a lurcher, and i wouldnt run it to the shop to buy some fags, but hey, any none working lurcher would be as shit... Dont want to get involved in the slanging match side of things and you couldnt compare the stamina of a lab with a good working collie 100% agree, but i think you would find that a lab x collie could well be as steady as a collie x probably even more so,and on the intellegence front a lab x collie wont be any less intellegent than a collie, the most intellegent dogs ive ever seen have had a good dash of lab in them, real intellegence though not "easily trainable" mistaken for intellegence. To the op,would i have one of the pups? no i wouldnt, but i wouldnt have another collie/grey f1 either, and i doubt they will be much difference in the 2. Quote Link to post

Dan Edwards 1,134
I aint into arguin but if yall dont think labs have endurance then yall are lookin at the wrong labs. Go on one o them big ole geese killin missions with some o these boys around here and I promise you, you will shit when you see what some of these labs can do. Work 7 to 10 days straight retrieving literally 100s of 10 to 15 pound geese up and down huge hills(damn near mountains) through icy water and never ever quit. I have seen it I know. I had a pup out of one of these type of labs and his endurance was absolutely unreal. I was completely shocked. I seen him catch cotton tails in the daytime. I aint sayin he caught everyone but it werent out of the ordinary either. When I was a boy my daddy and some others used to cross these type labs on greyhound bitches and do them swim races with em. Absolutely unreal ability. Quote Link to post

Then you threaten me again, lol. So is this the reason, if my opinion doesnt fall in line with yours, you get angry and use your fists? twat me, stamp on my head if you like, but i still think that labs shouldnt be used in lurchers. And that warrants all this, jeezzzzz.. Quote Link to post

Sorry i wasnt very clear in the first post,i meant from a running ability point of view, mentally there would be a difference and possibly for the better than using just collie imo. I know a few lads who have had collie x Labs and you wont hear them say a bad word about them,a mate on here said recently he rated one old bitch they had yrs ago better than his spaniels, but like i said i wouldnt want a f1 collie/Lab x greyhound.
