ferreting1888 7
hi guys looking for some help. i have my pup doing the basics like sit stay and recall. this ive got spot on around the house ,garden. ive recently started taking her the odd walk with the shotgun and she loves it. shes retrieved 4 crows and a few pigeons excellent. the problem is just the last two times ive been out i cant get her to sit with me at a tree waiting on pigeons its quite frustrating because she just wanders about a little and comes back with a stick lol i know shes a pup but any help would be great. thanks sean Quote Link to post
druimmuir 1
The clue is in the quastion you posed, she's a pup and there's no way she's ready to be sat still for a length of time in a pigeon hide let alone firing a shotgun over her head. Quote Link to post
Dave C 63
I started shooting over my Lab at the same age, the trick is short trips of an hour or 2 max, make it a training session but make it fun, i had her hunting up rabbits, but also taking Crows and Pigeons if we came across them but i think sitting waiting in a hide or even roost shooting will be a bit much to ask at this age. The other thing is i would only shoot 1 or 2 rabbits as well, get some good hunting, control work and retrieves in then call it a day and dont fire to many shots over her, 3 or 4 over the space of an hour or so Max. Good luck mate. Dave. Quote Link to post
gadge 2
I think the dog is still a bit young, its like any young thing the mind wounders , patience will come, labs are renowned for this. Quote Link to post

blacklab 0
Hi Sean don't rush him he is only 7months & still very much a puppy, it takes 2-3yrs to fully train a lab but only 2-3 minutes to ruin one. I don't start training my young dogs until they are 7-12 months old. All the best Lee swingtip-gundogs Quote Link to post
