saw in the paper that elver is £250 a kg.must be worth buying and giving it a go. :whistling:

Yea thats right mate, we started last night its the severn bore this week and the word is we are in for a very good season so fingers crossed, They are £240 but will go up as the week goes on!

elvers are young eels they catch them and they get sold on eventually being grown on in rice fields in the east at least thats what im led too believe if im wrong im sure someone will put me straight. :icon_redface:

That used to be the case, the japs used to buy them to eat and some were left to grow on to see if they could breed them! but as far as i no nobody has been able to breed them, they are sold to our elver station in gloucester and we get paid buy the kilo £240 is the going price but will go higher because there isnt many going in, all are elvers are being bought for re stocking other rivers here in the uk and europe, They are great to eat about 3 inches long fried in some bacon fat for about 30 seconds. Hope this sheds some light on the subject for you guys. We were brought up buy the river severn so nothing new to us but lots of people ask about what they are and wonder what all the nets and lights are in the middle of the night! :icon_eek:
