rickyspringer 15
no a very good age for training, won't take much to make a good beating dog out of her & i think its easy to get a dog on the whistle, like anything it takes time Quote Link to post
lewismac1 1
A year old is a great time to start training, As longs the dog has no faults or bad habits you should be ok. Right enough, i would be a bit cautious on why the last owner is getting rid of her? Quote Link to post
gadge 2
IN WHAT I NO IS IF THE DOG COMES FROM A WORKING BRED THEN THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBS, BUT LIKE THE OTHER CHAP SAID WAY IS HE GETTING RID,ANYONE WHO HAS A GOOD DOG NEVER GET,S RID,HOPFULLY IF HE PUT,S THE TIME IN HE WILL BE REWAERDED. Dave C 63
She could get to a decent standard to shoot over depending on her drive and breeding, i would start with the basics 10 / 15 mins morning and night and dont move onto the next command until she has mastered the first, she will gradually build up her training and her confidence. I would not let her do any hunting until her basic control is good or you will never get her right, but when you are not training just play retrieve games and build up a good bond with her. Bit of patients and you will be surprised how far you get. I got a cocker x that was a year and had been running with Lurchers and Terriers and it was amazing how she came on, after about 3 months training i was shooting over her. Good Luck Dave.
