Nell 1
I'm after a bit of guidance from some experienced shooters. All of my hunting has been done with dogs for the last 15 years with only a little bit of playing around with air rifles over the years. However now I have been out shooting with a mate recently and am thnking about getting a shotgun (if the licence gets the OK!). What would be an ideal one to begin with? I will be shooting rabbits and the like which have been bolted, maybe even the odd fox. Pigeons may even be a possibility. Any advice would be appreciated. unclemicky 3
I would imagine some thing cheap so you an your mate can do a bit of rough shooting , I have an old Baikal that's unbreakable and it does not matter if its raining or it gets knocked about a bit Quote Link to post
Nell 1
Thanks, my mate is realy into his guns and has suggested one or two but wanted to get a more broader view. I am also left handed so where would be the best place to buy from in your opinion? Quote Link to post
unclemicky 3
Nell there are a few places to purchase guns from , gun shops (more expensive) , forums like this some good bargins to be had , I sure some guns have a negative stock that could be used by a lefty , just got to look and keep the eyes open mate , cheers Mick. Deker 3,478
12g O/U 28 or 30" barrels, Multi Choke, single trigger, Field/Game gun, and preferably one that fits you. It's easy to say but harder to do, and I am convinced that very few people use a gun that fits them properly. Worth a look here... http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/ Quote Link to post

Id go for a .410 or maybe a 20g for rabbits. You can also use it for pigeons. Then again, why stick to one gun. Some guns are so cheap now, you could get a .410 for bolting rabbits, and a 12g in either o/u or semi automatic for the pigeons / fox. That would be my recommendation. Another alternative would be to get a 12g, then use one of those reducing tubes to use the smaller cartridges for rabbits. Quote Link to post
