PBurns 9
A great web site I'm going to have fun going through this one -- thanks! This is exactly the kind of web site that is always needed -- science based, pro-wildlife, pro-wildlife management, not averse to hunting and predator control done in a sensible way, etc. I used to work for the largest bird-conservation organization here in the US (despite the fact that I am not even the best birder in my family) and took some pride that they sued the animal rights crowd (successfully) to keep fox trapping legal in California. A few semi-related links along this line that folks might like: Cats as Predators >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2004/...-predators.html Red Fox as Litmus Test >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2004/...itmus-test.html Malthus and the Sparrow >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2005/...sparrow_18.html Bird Species Decline in the US >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2005/...line-in-us.html Cow Birds, Hay Fields and Grass Nesting Birds >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2006/...ss-nesting.html
miles 227
"or for that matter a single bird of prey all day" A quote from a gun club in Ireland. Its not about conserving song birds, its about conserving game birds for Posh people and gun clubs to shoot.Theres nowt wrong with shooting,im no anti, but i care passionatley about birds of prey and i have as much right to see Marsh Harriers on the fens,Golden Eagles on a grouse moor.Whilst in scotland two Golden Eagles were found poisened on a keepered estate, the scum that did this want locking away.A pair of Eagles keeps a moor healthy, natural predetors are there for a reason. Anglers attitude to pike changed when they realised that they keep a water healthy and disease free.I have some permission in the dales and on the fens in lincs,in the dales theres always plenty of rabbits about, even in bad mixi years, last time we went up with the harris the place was dead! Hardly a rabbit to be seen,no ducks on the flight pond and no buzzards on the wing.On returning to the farm we commented on the lack of game, lets it out to a shootin syndicate at weekends. Look, live and let live,go out and enjoy your shooting,B.O.P are part of the natural flora and fona,Sea Eagles,Ospreys, red kites, marsh harriers and yes sparrowhaks are makin a comeback from the dark days of persicution.Lovely to see.I dont see these people objecting to the near extinction of albertrossess in the southern atlantic,or the starvation of thousands of sea birds in their nests on the scottish coast due to overfishing of sandeels to feed farmed salmon etc etc.If we,ve got a healthy population of B.O.P we,ve got a healthy enviroment.
