Another Raw food thread

Recommended Posts

Right ive had my Greyhound on gently weaned onto raw diet.

I started him off mixing his naturediet/natures Menu with the frozen RAW meats from P@H.Hes doing well..perfect shits ect ect.

Just wondered would now be ok to start introducing kidney/heart/Ox tounges ect?

Also the veg ..I dont have a blender so is there any other way apart from liquidised how i can feed the veg?

And...He dosnt have bones..Tried him with a knuckle bone the other day and you guess it he bit enough off to choke on..

Gunna try and get a hold of some big beef bones.

But until then anyone know where i can get some DECENT priced bonemeal? :signthankspin:

Dont get any big beef bones....the same thing will happen as did with the knuckle bone.

The only bones i & most barf people will use are lamb ribs and neck, The are much softer, and dont splinter.

MOLL.

Whe i had lurchers, i use to feed them all on whole rabbits, venison (bones and all), sheep heads, scraps from butchers, tripe ( great energy food, BUT very smelly ), chickehen, pheasent ect.

If i ran out or had none of these food items, Racer complete dog food, but only as a substitute. ;)

Its Not just choking you have to worry about with them big beef bones teeth can crack or snap off .there far to strong for the average running dog to chew on .my bitch as just cracked a side tooth for her troubles never again. john

If your dog's got teeth, feed the veg as your family would eat it (though not too much, else your back yard will be full of d*******a - aka wild shites!!!!!!!!!!!

Veg; As Sam seems to be suggesting. What I do - as I don't have a family to feed and don't bother with cabbage for myself - is either give it a steam or else, in a pinch, put it in a drip of water and micro wave it for five minutes.

Idea behind all this is to semi break down the fibre. Dogs don't digest veg of this nature so well, so 'part boiling' gives it the work they need done to better finish the job and assimilate it. Otherwise they will shit cabbage stalk.

No blender? Use a knife and chopping board, like I do ;)

Like it Ditch Shitter! The look of horror on my daughter's face when I'm cooking cabbage or kale for the dogs is laughable...thinking about it tho the dogs get more veg(and a better balanced diet) than we do.She's also fairly pissed off that the freezer is now full of tripe/lamb/chicken wings rather than pizza and she has to actually cook her food, nae luck,eh?!
