Just had a new remington vs 223. How good are they out of 10 .

They are very good & every bodys opinion is diffrent on the rifle front. Im no 223 fan but with this rifle you get the H-S stock (very good) & the remmy 700 action is legendery for semi custom & after market parts so you could do a world of things with this rifle. I would rate it standard as 7-8 out of 10 as the triggers are s**t. Accuracy is that of benchrest stuff with some that i have seen ie .5 MOA & less. I would rather have a shorter barrel as the VS is 26" & i like 20"-22" for what i do & as i said you really want to look at getting a jewell trigger for it straight away.

Ive got a 700 sps Varmint in .204 ruger, first thing i changed was the stock, the factory sps v stock was like rubber. It had sooo much movement, so i put on a VS stock (from ebay US), it has a alluminium internal bedding block and had it pillar bedded, that has improved my accuracy and handling of the rifle. - by removing lots of movement.

 

Trigger wise, they come set very heavy, far to heavy if you want an accurate rifle. if its a new one it should come with the X-mark Pro trigger, that is adjustable, just a couple of allen screws to adjust. If unscure get someone who knows whatt they are doing to adjust for you. that will save you the cost of a new trigger

Forgot to add the VS stocks are made by HS Precision

 

But for a "precision" stock, mine fitted like a sack, hence the bedding.

The 700 is an ordinary everyday rifle, some of the models being slightly better and some slightly worse.

 

It does what it says on the box..usually!!

I brought a 700 sps, the stock was shockingly poor, for £700 you would atleast expect it to be free floating. Now with a H&S stock on it it shoots like a dream although it dose weight a ton (varmit barrel, heavy scope and T8 mod).

 

but i must add i do love the 700 action, and am i right in saying alot of custom rifles use the 700 action????
