plough , stubble , rough grass land , heather etc ground

Recommended Posts

Thought i would start a thread on differant ypes of ground you run your dogs on. My bitch an dog get run on a variety of stubble ( my favourite),flat fields not that big nothing compared to the fensand rough grass land. all this land on the lamp and during the day. Never given any thought of the dogs running on plough or heather. Plough because i think there feet would take to much of a beating and with heather i think there is to many hidden pit falls to make it worth it as my dogs are out every day or every second at least during the season and i cant afford them to be layed of for to long as they make my living and they sure do pay there way un like they missus haha

so what do you prefer and what ground would you not consider runing?

same as my dogs . in the day if a rabbit or fox is running across it so is my dog. on the lamp i tend to watch the ploughed fields as my dog tends to hit any bumps in the ground a bit hard

Its not so much wat grows on the land its to do with wat type of soil is on the ground that can be detrimental to some running dogs. The worst i have ever come across have been the flinty land down south that shredds the best of dogs feet and the best has been the black peaty soil of the fens.

To be fair i dont know of anyone who would chance stubble or plough its fair to much of a harazard for are athletes, not worth the vet bill, and trust me keep running on that and there will be vet bills or a f****d dog! Any other ground thats on here spot on! NO STUBBLE OR PLOUGH for me though

I'd guess with something like plough the dogs could learn to run on it? if it's grown up playing on it I mean.

We never get the chance, as soon as it's plowed round here the Harrow and Drill have been through and made it a perfect running field again!
