Thats it mate, knock knock, be gracious and polite, once you get your foot in you can name drop and get other farms to give a reference. Its hard work at first but it gets easier. When I moved to Lincolnshire from Sheffield I didnt have any down here, I now have 9 farms, estates to go at with about 14,000 acres to go at.

Keep you chin up and dont get dispondant.

1, Dress in casual clothes

2, Dont take ferrets, dogs, guns

3, Choose your timing , dont go when likley to be having lunch or tea

4, Explain that you will have a set of ground rules ie ferrets will have a locator on them and none will be left, all rabbits will be quickly despatched and removed, no litter will be left and any digging will be back filled.

5, Let him know it will be on his terms--He might just give you a small area first to see how you get on.

6, always speak to the land owner in person-never phone to ask or leave a letter (doubt they reply)

7, always stick to the terms he gives.

I found it hard also to get permission and put cards thru doors asking explaining that i run a rescue, but after speaking to one estate owner in person and telling him i run a rescue after 45 mins i left not knowing if i had permission or not only to get a phone call two days later asking when i would come, i now have his estate nad two othere and the two farms linking them and this season we have took 1359 rabbits from all the permissions,

there is four of us who do this every week and as a kind gesture we chipped in and bought the main man a bottle of whiskey, this way is shows our thanks for him letting us on the land and not hiring it out to a shooting club.

this is now the end of our second year doing these permisions and everyone is very happy the land owners and us.

Ps we can now use dogs, birds of prey, and air rifles on the land and he just keeps getting us more and more ground as i also have some small pest control jobs that i get paid for now. it only about £30 for two hours work but covers fuel and buys a few beers.

you could also try joining a local ferret club but they might not give any until you are a active club member.
