rats in garden

Get a decent pest controller in mate. They know their job, are (or at least SHOULD BE) insured and qualified and should be members of some pest control specific organisation (either the national pest technicians association or british pest control association). If there worth their salt they will guarantee their work and have it sorted for you in a month.

You need to put a tunnel trap down mate, build yourself a wooden tunnel 8 inch square and 18 inches long and place it on the run, build up around it so they have to go through it. Leave it for a week and then put a mk4 fen trap in it, make sure you bury the trap in soil or something for at least a week before you use it to remove all scents etc. After a week place the fen into the tunnel making sure to anchor it down, and you will get the rats, usually 2 in 2 days, a gap then more will follow. I have to trap on my garden all the time out here in the sticks, I shoot them as well though but do this all the time on the farms.

Hope this helps.

Dont use your ferrets mate you will spoil them, and a chance of them getting killed too.

At least when you trap them you know you have them, the field behind my house is littered with dead ones, I dont have any problems near the house, its just the garden near the ferrets and compost heap. Anyone who says they wont go near ferrets must be on drugs I have had them chewing at the cages to get to the grub the ferrets have left.

those rats are either brave or very stupid, either way a big rat would most def give a ferret a good scrap,i wouldn't want my ferts getting injured or killed, the trap it is then. atbthumbs.gif

Oh you didnt say anything about fun! Lol! In that case get some bait (sausage and bacon dripping from the grill works nicely and it congeals nicely too) at say 35 yards away and keep an airrifle next to the window. At night a red light will help, rats cant see the red spectrum but you can still see the rats.

the other day i was out ferreting and ther was a hole my ferret wasent shure about so a gave it a wee shove and it went down and to big huge brown rats came walking out but the 12 bore took care of them :boxing:http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/gunsmilie.gif

Always trust your ferret mate - if it doesn't want to go down . . . NEVER push it, there is usually a good reason, in this case two rats that could kill it. How would you like it if you were standing by a dark hole where you KNEW there was something nasty, decided not to go in and then i kicked you down it? You'd be a bit pissed off aye?

Jai.
