riohog 5,708
Get him checked out!!!!! My dog is in the vet hospital as we speak .............. was out with him last night, too many runs (didn't seem like that at the time though). Walking across fields back to the cars, my dog was lagging behind, kept an eye on him, next minute he starts walking really slowly and robotically, then collapsed. If it hadn't been for the bloke I was out with helping me carry him and for the keeper who came to collect us for the last few fields I wouldn't have the dog today. Can't believe how quickly he went down, tried giving him water, he wouldn't/couldn't swallow, took him straight to the 24 hour vet hospital near me, he was in extreme shock and wasn't far off dead. They're keeping him in for 24 hours and see how it goes. It's no good asking people what they "think" mate, get him checked properly and then you'll know, and be able to make a decision based on that knowledge. Good luck. that was dehydration mate Aye..... the dearest electrolytes that dogs gonna ever get lol. correct Aye mate.... Happens on the fens all the time... Many a so called world beater has been carried off the field flagging lactic acid build up and dehidratiom n Edited March 26, 2010 by riohog

Just curious though, if the advice to the original poster is to get to vets because it is impossible to diagnose through the internet ................ then how do you know that was all that was wrong with my dog? He's never gone down before, and has definitely worked harder before, on warmer nights. At one point he was jerking as though having a fit, all giving major cause for concern. Oh ............... Expensive? ............... around £400 so far ................
Flamin'Nora! 50
its worth every penny if it gets your dog right mate keep us up to date what the vet says when you find out what it was see if the KIA's on here were right or wrong

Good luck. hope he is ok mate, this type of thing (does) seem to afect bullxs, more than other xs. I had 3/8 bull 5/8 grey, same thing he had 12-15 runs, then came back stood still then fell to ground. At to carry him back to the motor, which was feckin 3 fields away, he was 77lb i thought i was going to have a heart attack. Got him to E vet, put him on a drip, didnt make it next day he was gone. The vet said he had [brain haemorrage), i know quite a few other bullxs that have gone the same.My vet said that the gene's of the bull terrier some times dont gel with the greyhound.?? I dont know, but it does make you think, regards some of the bullxs that have died like that.??

Everyone has at some point over worked their dog and the symptoms you said are common to that whilst the other guy said it was only 1 run. Bit of advice in future.... always give your dog time to get his tongue back in after a hard chase and if you have over exerted him like you did then give him some of the liver from one of his catches... helps revive him..... Thats if errrr he's actually caught one lol
