poacher3161 1,766
Its because s.yorkshire police have all ways had a policy of looking after land owners and they will come out to reports of lads with dogs a lot faster than if you are getting robbed or attacked. Quote Link to post
neil r 1,860
I was photographed a couple of weeks back while i was exercising the dog near my house. There was a piece in a local paper not long before about deer poaching and a couple of days before that there was a photo in another local paper of some deer taken by a reader near to where i was with the dog. The fella with the camera must have put 2and2 together and come up with 5 because he stood there for a while photographing me, all i was doing was throwing a ball for the dog , just because its a lurcher i must be up to no good. As far as the deer go ive been watching them for a couple of years without having a go for them but because of the shit in the paper the bloke must have thought i was one of them ruthless barbaric deer poachers with a specially bred killer dog. Most people round here are ok though , there a plenty of lads with dogs near me and i dont often hear of them getting any hassle Quote Link to post

wirral countryman 2,110
most the trouble I've gotten into has been through keeper's on estates, they alway's assume the worst scenario, everyone with a lurcher or any dog for that matter is a poacher in their eye's,a lot of police in our area beat and shoot locally so it is in their own interests to be vigilant,I once had over 20 police car's going around and round one particular piece of land, blocking my car in,it was a total waste of police manpower and that was twenty year's ago,so you can imagine now with the helicopter as well how bad it can get around merseyside and cheshire,I regularly get the helicopter over me or the police plane, this has become a regular event,I have posted on here before about it,they then send a car or two to the nearest farms to check who you are,and if you have permission,I mainly stay on permission in these area's,I might add although I am talked about as that poacher etc,I have never been convicted of anything,I once had a 3 day crown court trial on the say so of a keeper and it was he who got bound over to keep the peace not me,my barrister was paid by the crown and he was on 5,000pounds an hour.I feel if we all tread just inside the law and stick to those grey area's they will give up because of the cost, the cost of policing is high these day's and is results driven, most copper's love having an easy time of it if possible thats why there is a particular drive on poaching in certain rural area's,it is easy to drive round the countryside looking for car's parked up etc and so called poacher's than to do proper police work, with the tightening of budgets in the government police commissioner's and inspector's will have to show results to justify payments on overtime etc, with a bit of common sense shown and not many caught and prosecuted it should ease off, atb, wirralman Quote Link to post

Its not really bad here at all, compared with other places. But fools that do this will make it worse for everyone. Ayrshire. FTB I've posted about this before. Theres a lot of pet dogs that take deer particularly roe. These deer all get left where they're taken and lurchermen get the blame. I've read posts by lads who run deer and don't even intend trying to get the game home feeling its too hot. I don't deny this does happen but i still feel that the majority of dog caught deer found were taken unintentionally,by dogs that are kept as pets (admittedly often rescued running dogs) Quote Link to post
