andyfr1968 772
What you hear when you shoot a springer's not really what's heard down-range. A lot of what you hear when you fire is what's being transfered through the gun straight into your head 'cos your cheeks resting on it... It's mostly mechanical noise and vibe's that you as the shooter's aware of. The muzzle noise gets lost in all that crap and you're not really aware of it. Down range however, your target's heads not resting on the gun when it goes off, so it's not as aware of all the mechanicl crap that's going on. It'll mainly just hear the noise that comes out of the end of the gun so, yes, after all my rambleings, a mod will help your springer....... Cheers. Quote Link to post
Edgar 1
Im not convinced that silencers are neccesary for effective hunting, reason being if you shoot one animal then the one beside it is more likely to be scared of by the noise of the pellet hitting the first one. That noise is closer so as air rifles are fairly quiet anyway I can't see it matters too much. Rabbits for example have such good hearing that I suspect the noise of a silenced air rifle is still very audible to them. As for your new rifle it may well improve for bedding in, give it a couple of tins. Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
silencers are only useful on pcps in my opinion as a silenced springers are still quite loud and wil scare quarry off if you miss.with my silenced s400 i have missed a woody by a cm but it didnt fly off because of the silencer and aloud me to get in a second shot. plinkplinkplop 0
Thanks for the replys guys, my hw90 has a silencer and is alot quieter than the Cometa which seems to be all spring noise!! Its a nice light Rifle compaired to the Weihrauch but the noise is putting me off it a bit perhaps it will float me boat when I get a kill with and find out what it will do. Either that or I could be trading them both in for a pcp But then is it worth spending ex amount on a silencer, especially trying to get one in Cornwall!!!! Marksman 934
give it a strip down, degrease, clean and regrease mate you might find it will be quieter after that. If all else fails then invest in a silencer. As for the comment about there being 2 quarry and one running away, Don't take it for gospel but I find you'd normally get that with a springer anyway due to the movement of recocking the action frightening the second away, especially after it's mate has just copped it! Darryl i agree with marksman about the strip down iv also heard of velocity tar used on the spring to reduce recoil ATB samuri Quote Link to post
