Guest oldskool
i will put a picture up here tomorrow but heres the thing, about 3 weeks ago her elbow swoll up and needed drained along with an injection of white crap into the joint.... the vet wouldnt tell me what it was he put in but it was mixed with an anti-biotic... everything was doing well, there was a tinsy tiny bit of stretched skin left from the swelling so i thought she would be ok for a bit of light lamping... well, woke up tismornin and feck me!! back to square one... this is the third time and because of it i havent hardly been out lampin this season... does anyone have any remedies that help keep fluid away... i drained a bit of it myself and got 15ml out of it but its still swoll a bit... the vet stings me £30 a time to drain it (2minutes) inject it (2minutes) and then a handful of tablets.... not bad for 4 minutes work eh?? Guest itallion stallion
it sounds similar to what one of my bitches had . the fluid keeps filling up the next day after you have drained it off . it seems to me that there is some foreign body in the joint and it won't stop filling up untill it has been removed the fluid just acts as a cushion for the joint Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
YEP STALLIONS PROBABLY RIGHT !!, THERES A FIRST :11: ........... THE JOINT WILL HAVE SOMETHING IN IT SUCH AS A BONE CHIP , THORN , ETC........ TILL THATS REMOVED THERE SKIN WILL HEAL AND THE BODYS NATURAL DEFENCES WILL MAKE THE JOINT A CUSHION OF FLUID . IAM AFRAID THERES SOMETHING IN THERE AND WONT HEAL TILL ITS OUT ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
shotup 9
dont run the bitch for a while rest her up and wash her elbows with sugarsoap every other day it will take about two months at least as i had the same problem with a bitch of mine years back and the vet hadnt a clue how to cure it. my old greyhound master told me what to do and it healed and never came back.has the dog got any bull in it.waste of time draining the synovial fluid it will be reabsorbed when healing.make sure it has plenty of bedding as it will not stop agrivating the joints if its resting on hard surfaces. Guest walk by night
a few years ago a mate of mine had the same probley and the answear was the same as what shot up said try and keep plenty of bedding in it,s kennel my mates dog just pulled most of its bedding out and its elbow just kept swelling and need drianing Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
she does have a habit of pullin out her bedding!!! today i got sheets of carpet and tacked it down in the corners... the first time it happened i told the vet (this was the fisrt vet i went to) that she was pullin out her bed and lying on the boards... he said it was a blood blister and didnt want to treat it... im takin her to my usual vet tomorrow so i'll ask him to check her for somethin foreign in the joint! it will be a good excuse for him to run up a bill lol... i've done not too bad a job with draining it today but she doesnt like needles and will jump about a bit... i'm scared of makin things worse Quote Link to post
micheal rennicks 17
did you try a poltise coming from eire you know what i mean.draw the thorn if it is one out.think you just tape wet bread to the area. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
after alot of thought, i think that if it was a foreign object in the joint it wouldnt have taken 3 weeks for the elbow to swell up again?? i'm takin her today to get drained and this time i'l box rest her for about 6 weeks. if it swells again during that time then i think an xray might be in order! i forgot to say that the same thing happened the other elbow but it was cured within a fortnight but this elbow is takin for ages... Guest oldskool
well, she doesnt feel any pain in it frankie but its actually down a bit from what it was... i took 15ml from it yeasterday but i would say theres another 20 left in it... the vet said it wouldnt do much harm either but i would rather get her right again... i will box rest her for longer this time when he drains it... the tablets he gave me last time seemed to do a good job. i think she was nearly cured, i'm kickin myself now that i didnt let her be for a while longer... Clipper 207
had the same on my deerhound , the vet drained it the 1st time, 2nd time i put her on som antibotics and rested her for mth never happened again Quote Link to post
jpnixon 7
i had the same problem and i was gonny drain it then put aload of pennicillan into it but thought it would be better to go to the vet first and he just done exectly what i was going to do the white stuff he put into your dog is pennicillan. Get yourself a bottle of betamox of the vet only cost you around 6 or 7 pound its far better than pennicillan. If he asks why you want it tell him you have greyhounds you get no more questions after that as its not strange for greyhound men to give their dogs injections. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post
