CarraghsGem 92
im soon to aquire my new (old bloodline )nuttal patterdale dog, he is 20mths,chocolate- rough coated, working very well and is breeding quality as well as being a nice looking animal, i only want to mate him to less than half a dozen bitches with the aim of obtaining a bitch pup out of this dog for keeping myself and a bitch pup to give back to my friend (as a thankyou because he never ever sells dogs to anyone) who sold me this cracking dog. my main selection criteria for the bitch is that she is working well and that this can be proven, and that she is from predominantly old nuttal bloodlines. is there any other criteria i should consider for the bitch? im not mating this dog right away as i feel he is a little young so i have time to look around before i put him out to stud, and also i just want to enjoy working a genuine hard terrier for a while first. gem. It's always good to check for good teeth, bite, spannability and good overall confirmation. There's no point in breeding rubbish. Quote Link to post
rob.i 26
Its your dog mate do what you like but to put over less than six which could be 5 could be a lot of pups just to get a bitch Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
i check for that anyway, wouldnt expect a good hard working bitch to have these faults either, i was reared in a family who show dogs! lol Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
to get 2 bitches in total, this dog is superior to many offered for stud here. i will probably keep on the "picks" for a couple of months and then keep the best 2! there is also the chance there may not be a bitch in a litter etc, murphys law! rob.i 26
Aye murphys law could be all bitches too Quote Link to post
littlefish 587
Perhaps your friend who sold you the dog could suggest suitable bitches. If he has high standards he might have the right connections. Especially if he is looking to have one of the offspring? Quote Link to post
Flamin'Nora! 50
he only sold it to me because im a mate, we are closer than blood family, that doesnt make sense if hes that close a mate why sell yuo the dog and not gift it? Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
im insisting on paying him for the dog, and he doesnt know im giving him a bitch back either, as for the bitch, i want to decide this matter for myself! Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
I may be missing the point entirely(doubt it) - but why do you need to mate it to six bitches to obtain a pup? I am presuming this is about £ ? FTB Quote Link to post

CarraghsGem 92
if it was about ££££ i would mate him to as many bitches as possible, and i wouldnt give a damm what they looked like! i didnt say i was going to mate him to 6 bitches; i said less than half a dozen, i prob wont end up mating the dog to half that amount, im just leaving myself room for mismatings or other complications like; no bitches in a litter etc. Quote Link to post
