romany52 313
as a lot of small male harris's will take hares, most females will take hares with ease, Not wishing to get dragged into a debate about something i know very little about, BOP, but i was always under the assumption that hares often over-taxed Harris Hawks and it was rare to get one to take a hare on a regular basis. Is there better strains than others on Hare?....JD As Ive said mate, Ive finished on this thread!
danw 1,748
can't believe I just read all of that it must be cause it is raining and I ain't got anything to do.All I know is this the minute we write rules about wild animals they go and break them, can a buzzard lift a hare?fecked if I know but would it surprise me if one did absolutely not. their will always be exceptions to every rule
Lab 10,979
I havent read all the pages a)there are too many and it looks like veryone is arguing and bickering and i cant be arsed to read that shit, BUT im going to have my tuppence worth (not that its worth much-lol) Personally i doubt it was a buzzard that lifted the dog, im sure someone has already mentioned that their talons are not particularly impressive, plus a small dog weighs quite a bit - and im sure that will have been mentioned too! Im not saying its definately not a buzzard as stranger things have happened, but its unlikely. As for the bickering on shooting birds of prey that i saw when i quickly glanced at a couple of pages, im passionate about falconry but i believe that some form of number reduction in certain areas is called for. Some areas of scotland are wick with buzzards and something needs to be done. Where i am there is virtually nothing, birds of prey here are persecuted relentlessly which is a shame, but other areas do need some form of a legal cull. Thats a great post mate.....passionate about your sport but still not blind to see that numbers of some bop are way to high and a cull should be put in place. As i work in the game bird world pretty much all year round i would like to add that it is not my thoughts to kill every bop that i see but at certain times of the year it would be good to deal with a problem bird or 2. bolio 49
For the benefit of anyone who may be unfamiliar with the comparative sizes of adult hares and baby leverets...... Bearing in mind that the Harris Hawk is generally bigger and considerably stronger than the European Buzzard, and apologies to whoever posted these pics on the web.....I saved them a long time ago.
