Craig. We both know that that pic has either been "photoshopped" or its actually the cuddly toy bunny that Romany has for his regressive therapy sessions(He's going to be very upset when he finds out!) or its the rabbit that has caught the bird and is jumping back to his warren to eat it!

This was always going to happen.   Where i live the boom in raptor population has more to do with the lazy local shoots who lay down thousands of ducks, pheasant and partridges on land that is too s

Birds of prey cause alot of damage to certain land uses, and they are on the increase - massively. Its something that has to be put up with im afraid   And to be fair the pup was probably off pet

I totally agree. Which is why I took my pics! Or rather I got my lad to.

It is a pity that others (like you) don't have a similar open minded approach to these discussions.

Although it does give others the opportunity for a bit of sport.

My first post said, that a buzzard would struggle to get off the ground with an adult rabbit. All I've seen so far, are pics of Buzzards carrying rabbits, now to me none of those rabbits look to be adult. I add pics of Buzzards with adult rabbits,. for others to make comparisons. We are all responsible for our own judgements, its down to you, think what you like. I've given my judgement!

Do Buzzards differ in size in different areas? Because the ones in those pictures seem awfully small compared to the ones that sit on the telegraph poles round here...

Obviously they are not all the same size, with any species in the Northern hemisphere, the further north in their range they are, the bigger they get. In the UK the difference is between North & South would not be that great. The Buzzards you see on telegraph poles tend to look bigger because they are relaxed, when they are relaxed they are inclined to loosen their feathers. Most birds, especially birds of prey have the ability to make themselves look a lot bigger than they actually are. When you handle a Buzzard there is surprisingly little bird beneath all the feathers.

When did I say that Harris were no good for falconry? You TWUNTING FEKTARD

No apologies for insults on this occasion as you still just don't get it!

Malt,

Don't bother. I think his problems with size may be as a result of something a lot closer to home!

In the interest of trying to point out one mans failings, which is evidently an exercise in futility, I am happy to make the following statement;

IT'S FACT! BUZZARDS/KITES CAN'T LIFT AdULT RABBITS/HARES. IT'S NEVER HAPPENED. ALL THE PICTURES HAVE BEEN "DOCTORED". MY SON AND MYSELF ACTUALLY HAD A COINCIDENTAL HALLUCINATION. HARRIS ARE THE GREATEST BIRDS KNOWN TO MAN. ROMANY IS OMNIPOTENT AND WE ARE MERE MORTALS THAT WALK IN HIS SHADOW. THE REMORSE I FEEL IS ONLY OVERSHADOWED BY THE SHAME OF MY OBVIOUS IGNORANCE OF THE THINGS THAT I DID NOT SEE

HAPPY NOW ROMANY?

Explains so much....had I known I really wouldn't have bothered or I would have used smaller words.....probably the former

Reading is not intelligence......................!

Self diagnosis and treatment I suspect.

I havent read all the pages a)there are too many and B) it looks like veryone is arguing and bickering and i cant be arsed to read that shit, BUT im going to have my tuppence worth (not that its worth much-lol)

Personally i doubt it was a buzzard that lifted the dog, im sure someone has already mentioned that their talons are not particularly impressive, plus a small dog weighs quite a bit - and im sure that will have been mentioned too! :tongue2:

Im not saying its definately not a buzzard as stranger things have happened, but its unlikely.

As for the bickering on shooting birds of prey that i saw when i quickly glanced at a couple of pages, im passionate about falconry but i believe that some form of number reduction in certain areas is called for. Some areas of scotland are wick with buzzards and something needs to be done.

Where i am there is virtually nothing, birds of prey here are persecuted relentlessly which is a shame, but other areas do need some form of a legal cull.

as a lot of small male harris's will take hares, most females will take hares with ease,

Not wishing to get dragged into a debate about something i know very little about, BOP, but i was always under the assumption that hares often over-taxed Harris Hawks and it was rare to get one to take a hare on a regular basis. Is there better strains than others on Hare?....JD :victory:
