andyz 30
Evening all, just as the subject says I am currently looking to pick myself up a rangefinder and thought who better to ask than the chaps who use them frequently. Now, looking around the cheapest I've found is about £85ish (Guntuff) going right up to around £600 (Leica)... Are the more expensive ones worth the money, bearing in mind I only shoot legal limit air rifle? What do you guys use, what would you recommend? Any thoughts\comments would be greatly received. Cheers, Andy Quote Link to post

Cheers, Andy hi andy, i went without one for aaaaaaages then finally bit the bullet and picked on up from ebay, £60 delivered i now use it every time i go out, its a very quick and reliable way to gauge you quarry's distance accurately. i think it would be safe to say work to your own budget, a more expensive one will be better quality but with my max shot being 60m i cant really justify £600 on a range finder.... but it would be a gucci bit of kit.... good luck andy lex Quote Link to post

andyz 30
Cheers Lex, I know exactly what you mean, I imagine the most basic one would be fine for my needs assuming it was accurate. The more expensive ones would probably have better optics and probably a better magnification, but is it worth the extra? £60 posted sounds like a right bargin (thanks for the pic), I presume you're happy with its performance? ATB, Andy yeah i have checked it with my 30m roll tape and its bang on, only thing is when i was looking over the hill it had trouble getting a fixed distance at over 300m but..... ha, a little bit out of my reach at the mo.... its a fixed 6 x mag with a 25mm lens and has a clear lcd display, you can adjust for different conditions too, yeah very happy with it!! your right the more expensive ones are a bit more accurate over longer distances and have a higher quality lens and functions, but i do enjoy the knowledge and safe feeling you get when you use it, does take out the guess work which has got to help with the focus on the shot not thinking hmmm is it 30m or 35m or maybe 25m.... zini 1,939
I use a GunTuff LRF and I find it to be brilliant. By getting a LRF you will humanely shoot much more vermin at range than without one. If you know the trajectory of your rifle and can laze the target first the vermin is in the bag every time. zini 1,939
Farmboy, If you have the money buddy I would defo get one if i was you pal. I tried to resist for many years due to the price being high and wanting to rely on my military training to estimate range accurately. Then along came the GunTuff LRF for £84 from JS Ramsbottom and i decided to give one a go. I havent looked back since buddy. A GunTuff in the day and a Hawke laser at night and you won’t go wrong buddy. I managed a few kills down to mine mate that i would of defo missed cleanly without it due to poor range estimation. farmboy99 1
i do gardening and landscaping thats a cracking idea there! i think i will invest in one. i too like to think i can judge distance but when things are in trees etc it can blatently throw you a bit i reckon. do you find it easy to lace the target then shoot? you dont find that you get clocked swapping from laser to gun? thats the main concern of mine. i cant afford one yet but in the not too distant future i think ill be investing in one! you reckon its best to get the jsr then zini?
