Ideation 8,216
Depends on a lot. Firstly if its broken to ferrets or not! Also if it can mark? If not i suppose it would be handy for bushing rabs and pushing them to ground, and then could be put on lead when ferret is out/down. I dont like taking unsteady dogs tho, they just get in the way. And still worked foxes too. Edited March 24, 2010 by longdog13 Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Better with a lurcher that has the speed that a terrier doesn't Quote Link to post
lawrence 657
i work a bedlington with ferrets, he's a decent wee dog at it but no terrier is quick enough to catch bolted rabbits on the run with any regularly, you might touch for the odd one but a lurcher would a better tool for the job. stevethefish 80
As with any dog you need to break the dogs to the ferrets, my patts will kill anything they see but will not touch the ferrets. They have access to the cage all the time and sniff them and get told keep off with authority, it takes time but they will be ok. Patts are just killing machines but they can be taught, my bitch got her first lesson at 7 months when she put her tongue into the hole in my ferret box when I returned from ferreting. She was squeeling running around the garden dragging a box with three ferrets in and one tightly biting her tongue, a good lesson and wary after that. It was funny looking back though! Quote Link to post
jenksi87 3
we use terriers mate. sometimes 3 lads with 6 jrt's. have been out with 5 lads, 5 jrt's a cairn terrier, 2 springers and a lurcher and not one went for the ferts. break them while there young and you will be fine with any dog. i can leave my ferrets in the dog run with my jack russel while i clean out there hutch. they just run around playing with each other Quote Link to post
