Trout and Grayling on a river you want a 3-4# 7' rod WF4 or DT4 line (DT will give you a better presentation) 6' ish 4lb leader and flies to suit the time of year and hatch.... All depanding on the river you will fish

Aye, I would have thought a novice would find a WF line much easier to learn to cast with than a DT though.

you will need a strong setup for pike 8-10 weight 9-10ft rod with the same weighted line to suit, for a beginner a medium action rod with both floating and intermidiate wf line of the same weight of the rod.also a few different sink tips to get the fly to the fishes feeding level on the day.

for the rest of the species then depending on the water you fish a 4-6 weight rod 8-10ft and as above with what type of action and lines you will need.

this is my setup up for trout.

best of luck.

lol yes its not a starter kit really..

for your first rod try and get the best one you can as a good rod can help your casting a great deal.

clean your line and eyes of the rod every week to keep it free from grit and dirt as if not it will hinder your casting..

for practice tie a shoe lace to the end of your line and practice casting on short grass if you can..

i would advise to get casting lessons also.

best of luck.

If I was you I would start on the brownies and work my way up to the pike, don't bother spending much on the reel because imo it's a fancy winch, all the advice above is spot on

PS look out during the summer for fly fishing courses, professional instruction is probably the best thing you can do to improve your casting
