Big bald beautiful 1,231
Often wondered why most picture on here of dogs taking rabbits when out ferreting are doubled up? I dont enjoy working two running dogs together I walk out two whippets but wouldnt dream of hunting two together as im sure it would effect retreaving. Quote Link to post

Magwitch posts pics of our dogs running together so perhaps this is partly for us.Our dogs retrieve together, but neither wish to relinquish the catch when the other dog still has a hold on it.It would be very difficult to slip just one dog at time , on the ground we are using the dogs ,the rabbits can bolt from any number of places and its entirely possible ,because of the short distances they run before going to ground again ,that one dog just might not be in the right place ,and wouldn't get on terms. That said what we post is usually end of season stuff, where the bunny control has been pretty systematic over a period of time .When I am out on my own my 3 dogs are run free ,and it does affect their retrieve,I often have to leash up the two who didnt catch ,so the other one will come in with his prize. But as I am basically giving them exercise, I have to have them running free. I would not have two dogs off whilst lamping though. Edited March 22, 2010 by inan Quote Link to post
