amitchell 0
I give brewer's yeast a couple of times a week or so as its meant to provide B-vitamins and deter fleas(I also give garlic). She doesn't generally have a problem with fleas except once when I took in a stray who was riddled with them. But then I only have one dog so its easier to keep on top of it without the fronline or whatever, which I'm not that keen on(I'm not in tick-country either). I remember taking loads of it myself to (supposedly)keep the midges at bay and still got eaten alive!

craigyboy 1,274
Brewers yeast is rich in vitamin B, high-quality proteins and minerals such as zinc. It also contains important amino acids. It is an old wives' tale that brewers yeast is able to prevent fleas. Actually, brewers yeast is often used by companies that manufacture flea and tick products in order to grow fleas. Some dogs may develop allergies to brewers yeast. The risk is higher in dogs who are prone to skin allergies. Because brewers yeast increases gas and fermentation in the stomach, deep-chested dogs may develop bloat, a potentially fatal condition. Brewers yeast has been reported to reduce shedding and promote healthy skin. There are also claims that brewers yeast helps bolster a dog's immune system. Brewers yeast can be found in tablets (often with garlic) specially formulated for dogs,i personally dont give it my dogs,i much prefer good quality seaweed Edited March 22, 2010 by craigyboy
