Ideation 8,216
Was just having a random thought today about maybe getting hold of an air pistol, just for some random garden plinking really but also maybe to shoot a couple of the roosting pigeons that we always come across when out lamping (we can get really close). We currently use a catty, but just thought it might be a bit of different fun. Looking for a relatively cheap pistol. So my questions are - any ideas on what gun i could get? and would an air pistol be at all suitable for shooting game - taking into account that i would obviously practice until i felt competent to hit game cleanly. Cheers, Jai. Quote Link to post

Hello Jai Most air pistols will only develop low muzzle energies (my webley pistols are typically 3ft lbs) but the hw45, webley alecto and the benjamin/sheridan/crosman EB, E9a and 22** crosman series of Co2 pistols are up near the legal limit but personally, i wouldn't use a pistol on a pigeon (or anything really) as it would have to be a bang on head shot and that may not make a quick kill either, it's always better to use a rifle with more power available and better accuracy 8) John Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Pistols should really only be used to brain shoot trapped vermin (just my opinion) Preferably .22 either a HW45 or like earlier mentioned one of the Ben-Sherries EB22 range. Wouldn't use one for dropping a bird from a tree though, not unless you were sat at its side with your non firing hand around its neck Phantom Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Cheers guys, i dont know much about air pistols, so thanks for all the info! I think i may well give it a miss tho after what you've said. I already shoot air rifles and shotguns so it's a bit unnecessary. I'll stick to the catty for the roosters, i think its more powerful anyway. However i suppose i might still get an air pistol at some point to shoot cans in the backyard. What kind of range can you get and what would be a cheapish one? Cheers, Jai. Quote Link to post
