aaronpigeonplucker 32
hi all, i have discovered some ivy covered trees on the border of y permission. i had seen 4-5 pigeons feeding on them when i came down but i was too hasty and scared them off whilst stalking them. i saw exactly where they flew, into some trees about 300 yrds from the border of my permission. i could not do a thing so i set up overlooking the ivy covered trees with a camo hide net over me to break up my shape. half an hour later a pigeon looked as if it was going to fly into the trees directly in front of me but decided to turn to left and go into some trees to the left of me about 20yrds away. as it landed i slowly turned my rifle at a pace which a snail could outrun till it was pointing at the trees. by this time the woody was vigourosly feeding behind a branch and i could not get a shot. due to its own accord (not me) it decided to fly off just as i was about to take a shot it flew right back off my permisson to the trees 300 yrds away nwith the others. so i waited a whil with my rifle pointing at the spot the woody was last. then 2 of the pigeons i saw before flew over to the trees i was originally pointing my rifle at. :wallbash: so again i painstakingly moved my rifle back to where it was before very very slowly. by this time the pigeons were right in the ivy and as i took the shot my pellet clipped a branch (i didnt know it did at the time) and the woodys flew off. at first i thought my zero might have been off so i shot a 1 hole group with 3 shots at a leaf and it was fine. only when i looked back to where the pigeon was did i notice that a branch had the tell tale sign of pellet with a small circle on a branch shifting in the wind about 5 yrds away from me. the pellet must have clipped tis and gone way off. a frustrating hutn with 2 oppurtuinities to get a pigeon in the bag. ATB, a very annoyed Aaron.... Edited March 21, 2010 by aaronpigeonplucker Quote Link to post

farmboy99 1
that happens to me quite a bit too, you think you can squeeze the pellet through but it clips a twig and youre buggered! i managed to get a woody through a maze of branches the other day was well impressed with the shot took into consideration the curve and managed to get him but that was very lucky for me im not usualy that good at all! i just nailed a crow this evening was a bit of a wait for it, there just out back and usually i cant get near em theyve got amazing eyesight it would seem! anyway went out there and sure enough scared em off but there had been a development! a delivary of wood and it was large enough and placed such that is was perfect to wait behind and as it was getting dark (or at least i thought) i knew theyd be back so i set up there took about 45min (lighter a lot longer than i thought it was going to be!) but finally i heard a faint 'cor' and knew i was on, cocked and loaded my s400k just to watch a mighty great crow come in with a lovely clear line of sight to him! (which was a pleasent change to the usual picking through branches! ) pop and drop one down other 2 flew off i waited until it was dark enough that i couldnt stand a chance of getting them and they hadnt returned so gave up but im going to try again tomorrow for the other 2 i wondered how they found there way home in the dark but i suppose a night out is better than being dead for em!
