RESPECTING YOUR QUARRY!

Recommended Posts

After reading few topics on here past few weeks about when the hunting season finishes i was surprised that people even to ask why?!

I was taught to hunt an work dogs by my late grandfather and his friends an we where always brought up to respect what ever we hunted for sport and pest control.

Why is it then people still hunt when the seasons over an people on this site praise them for it?

I don,t mean for pest control i understand this has to be undertook all year round in certain circumstances .

But mean the pointless killing of pregnant or young animals in the name sport is actually ruining are own sport an i think the more experienced hunters need to teach newcomers to the sport that their is a season for a reason or we might as well give up because there won,t be anything left for us or are kids to hunt in the future.thumbs.gif

agree with you if its for sport but pest control mate thats the whole idea to keep the vermin off. im a farmer and the damage the bleeders make they have to be gone as the money they chew through isnt worth keeping other mans sport alive on arable land but other than that i think it should be left to breed as long as there not costing money. atb jamie

I know what your saying mate i do some pest control on few farms myself and i would try to get the numbers well down as much as i could.

But i would never go to an extent that i would wipe every single thing out and any of the farms i visit the farmers have the same view they don't like blighters but they don't want their to be none at all at the same time. thumbs.gif

think it depends on the farmers and what loses hes encountered ive got some permission on one lot of land its one of the largest arable farms going and you have to go all season and you'd still struggle to keep numbers down to a few big problem and lost alot of crop due to them now he wants them extinct so got to try my best to get numbers down now got some help from a young lad who loves ferreting so hopefully keep them at bay other wise the permission will be given to someone else. i'l be lamping as much as i can untill the arable gets to high. but its surprising just how much they breed in this time by start of season when there cutting numbers back up again.

When will you people realise there is no more sport in hunting. The way the anti hunt brigade see it is ....hunting =killing animals ...sport is enjoyment ergo you enjoy killing animals ..As for respect your quarry ..i think thats out of the window reading some of the sh1te posted on here. You control vermin no more no less

all animals should be treated with respect gas mark 4 to 6 for game once its butchers otr hanging up cleanly in the butchers shop , to seel to peole who enjoy game , but hunting wirth dogs sep to end of march realy , any thing else well your killing your own sport , and if you cant get enough in the six months of the dark and frosty mornings well no piont catching them full of young in the warm mornings , as is ays pestcontrol but how many honestly have enough game to pestcontrol after march , apart from rabbs rats and foxes need t be killed ruthlesly in some areas ,cockroaches wappies bikes all sorts of vermin even antis shouldbe controled no close season for them either , to me the town fox like pidgoens need bsadly controled with all sorts of ways same with squirels etc mice ,but game animals who provide good money good food should be respected for the food they provide sport etc

i finish by march 17 at the very latest every year and usually stop actual digging in febuary.everything needs a break to breed.unfortunatly there are a good many clowns over here all with rubbish dogs that think they are top workers when they catch small cubs.the very same lurchers or terriers would not face a grown animal.shitty dogs with shitty owners.

max you ever see what rabbits do to winter wheat , what foxes do to hill sheep lambs , pheasants when young ,its an on going job in the country side in some areas ,once the corn is up and they cant see them all the better,,but chaseing hares in summer etc is only kidding youre self on , rabbits are desructive things rats pidgoens etc foxes need to be controled fuls top,at times , some times ill run the dogs through them without lamps just to scare them off in certain feilds as the less pests they see the better for the pests

Does anyone feel so tired at the end of the season that they look forward to it ending? Come late Febuary i sure am ready for a break, a lie in and a few nights out. :victory:

To be honest mr Darcy, The rare occasions that I come on here, I usually see the same old names trawling the boards, so unless they are using wifi out in the field, I think most on here get a long lie most days.
