charliehunter100 22
Hi all, hope that your all well, Right im going to have a moan about permission, time after time ive been sneered at when I ve mentioned that in 20 Years of working dogs Ive only had permission for 2 Years (golf course) before I get hung, I have tried everything, from phone calls to letters, e-mails to knocking on doors, but when you hear "look lad we have had 3 generations of the same family working our land", what chance have I got !!! so what we saying, no permission = hang up my dog lead ? I have it in my blood, my father my fathers father, but alas that was in the day, when a fella walking across a field with a rabbit in his hand didnt mean a visit by the aircops! so you lucky fella's with millions of acre's of permission spare a thought for those who, love the sport as much as anyone but due to circumstances have to tread on the wrong side of the fence, Thanks for reading ATB Craig. never heard of poaching lad??? it was invented for people with no permission you should try it Quote Link to post
staffybull 0
i know what your saying sully, not long back i poached gotham someone came out told to go,went to hucknall samething, tried bulwell someone came over to us,sold my dog untill i get permission not have another,is it worth the trouble off farmers, people who have the permission or the coppers over a rabitt, sooner or later it ends in trouble, not worth it mate, everyone who has permission not share as fear as going back when there not there, theyve earned it,remember all dont talk late at night on fields, some say f off others think there lennox lewis, permission is the only way to go, Quote Link to post
the pikey poacher 1,157
i got caught poaching about 6 years back by the farmers wife because like yourself mate i got sick of being refused she came across to me and my boy ranting and raving i apologised to her and explained to her that id given up asking because of farmers and keepers keep saying no and told her i dont cut fences and i always close gates after me and asked her what harm we were doing to my amaizment she said if you phone my husband later and ask nicely im sure he would let you come and do a bit of rabbiting so i phoned up half expecting to get a bollocking but he said it was ok and ive had it ever since he also got me some more on a golf course that he goes to so just take a chance you never know Quote Link to post
huntingalltheway 2
Theirs no big deal as long as no damage or theft of other things besides rabbits is done But you have to look at it from there side mate. Some farmers that get a raw deal as soon as they see a lamp are on the phone to the screws. Idiots with dogs have dragged all our names through the mud to an extent than some farmers assosciate dogmen with thieves. I cant say i blame tham. It must be so disheartening to work you fingers to the bone for some dole scrounge to come and drive over your fields leaving a trail of destruction. We owe it to the sport to portray it in a good light, so use your heads guys and do it the way it has always been done. FTB mate by reading your posts your claiming its poachers who cause all these problems most lads who poach properly only leave there foot prints behind no other signs they been there. its the odd few e.g the subaru guys who ruin things for us. you cant say its only poachers who do this. i live and work on a farm so know the score and most farmers dont see it how your trying to paint the picture. i used to poach flat out only started to get permission just so i could walk over land during day. now got thousands of acres. i found only 1 in ten farmers have told me to clear off the rest have opened my dog work with open arms. think its all about how you aproach farmers. and how you go about getting the permission. huntingalltheway 2
keep hoping mate wrong word of choice i dont hope i know all my family are farmers and most my friends are farm owners and workers. im not a city lad and my day consist of working on a farm and then in evening i lamp. when im out socialising again im with farmers so i think on this i do know. and like flint08 says who do you think buys the stolen equipment off farms other farmers. now most theives from farms have never worked a dog on them in there life so i dont think farmers brand dog men as the problem they just say no as it keep more people off there land that way hence why if you approach farmers right way small to start and offer a little something for them it shows your genuine and a decent person. its make or break normally a farmer bases there opinion on you within the first few seconds of looking at you and hearing from you. like jd says once your friendly with the farmer skys your limit atb jamie Quote Link to post
Wild_and_Irish 11
i'm surprised that this thread has gone so smoothly, probably due to the sympathetic and endearing nature of the originator sounds like a decent bloke with alot of passion for the sport and affection for the dog. a good example for alot of umcoming/working dog men, pm sent. waidmann I'll second that waidmann , nearly had me in f*****g tears last night , Never knew that permission was such a big issue over there, never had permission anywhere , ever, lads just carry on over here , nobody gives a feck..best of luck.. Same up here, I think it's the estates that f****d things up for these lads, I've never been approached when out with anybody else or by myself, only clue I've been there is the dog pulling to get to the field during his walks.
