Sully the reason the farmers slam the door in your face is because they have had so meany people who think the land is theres. Farmers get a harsh deal in certain areas, and i know this because i work

Excellent advice Hunter, I have 100% taken it on board, I dont want to come across as a saint but i deffo wouldnt loose it when I get it, there's alot of positivity and I feeled buoyed by it all, to h

Theirs no big deal as long as no damage or theft of other things besides rabbits is donethumbs.gif

But you have to look at it from there side mate.

Some farmers that get a raw deal as soon as they see a lamp are on the phone to the screws.

Idiots with dogs have dragged all our names through the mud to an extent than some farmers assosciate dogmen with thieves.

I cant say i blame tham. It must be so disheartening to work you fingers to the bone for some dole scrounge to come and drive over your fields leaving a trail of destruction.

We owe it to the sport to portray it in a good light, so use your heads guys and do it the way it has always been done.

Fight the Ban, 100% with you, look please fella's lets not get into an argument at allover this debate, I was really hoping to have a grown up debate on something we all feel passionate about, so I really ask for us all to keep on the level and not make it a have permission Vs a have no permission slanging match, I deplore thieveing in anyway, but thats the problem, I do feel guilty and am not proud of the situation, but like I said, I have loved and love my dogs very much, and the very thought of my dogs working, usung instinct laid down over thousands of Years makes me shiver with excitement, how on erth can me bring field sports into our next generation, my boys sit on there own in their bedroom hooked up to msn, face book and xbox, yet I cant get them out for an hours lamping with their old man, not right is it ?

:icon_eek: :icon_eek: just grow a pair and get out there. if you think your gonna get caught you proberly will but if you think you wont then you normally dont!

Aye and who buys stolen dogs...

Theres always unscrupulous members of any community, least of all the dog game.

Unless there is anyone else here that can make an educated conclusion from both sides, i am the only one.

Ive been there when they need a tow out, ive been there to see things go missing, ive been there in the morning to find the wheel marks all over barley fields.

You cannot bleme the farmers for tarring us all with the same brush, its all they know and you would do the exact same if you were in there shoes.

The poster made it quite clear he wanted a civilised debate, which i will respect and leave it at that.

I have said my bit and so have you.

Cheers FTB

Poacher, I thought you knew me, I have always liked and admired the relationship between man and animal, wether it a horse, bird or dog, however, If you would have seen our Lexy snuggled between me and the wife this morning, there is an unbreakable bond, a loyalty and a unity between a man / woman and his / her dog, I like what I know, and if honest this is the thing which grows in me and I cant help myself, why should I who have loved working dogs since my dad took me out with our Sheba (old fashioned mooching dog, probably called a mongrel nowadays) those days of me gutting my first rabbit on a Sunday morning, me mum cooking it while listening to radio Trent (she had a thing for the DJ on Sunday dinner times) these memories come running back to me, and if im not careful I could shed a tear, both are now sadly gone from my life and I miss them dearly, but I have those memories, myt children will not feel that freedom I did, cant you remember your first time ??? I say no more !

Jimmy, my dog is a for life, wether my dog is shite or not, this whole debate is around the fact that I have no permission, so why would I have a dog based on it being a prelific rabbit taker, if you read my posts I ve said that my dog is firstly a pet, a companion and is loved as a pet by the whole family, does this mean that we cannot enjoy our training together, our long walks and long term our lamping sessions ? so the answer is, if Lexy turns out to be totally and utterly useless in the field, she still has a place in Lisa and my bed.

:icon_redface: i didnt mean it like that mate!! i meant that if you dont get her out now as she is young you might ruin her in the future when you have got loads of permission but a dog thats not done enough to merit it. fair play to you on a dog for life im the same myself im just saying you might regret not just risking it now and see what happens while your out there instead of worrying about it and its to late when you have got the land but a dog thats not up to scratch. were not far away im only in derby if you fancy abit of a mooch after some bunnys on sunday on my permission let me no

Are there no shoots local to you then? Where abouts are you in notts? I could ask a few keepers if they want an extra beater, no promises though but if i heard of a space come up and you are a genuine lad like you appear i could put your name forward...

Im the only person with ferreting permission on a fairly large local shoot as im the only one trusted, that permission took years to earn and im proud of how i am regarded by the shoot land owners, keeper and shoot captain. Its led to terrier work and lamping as well as shooting. The shoot i help the keeper on and have permission to basically do anything i got through beating and proving to be up for any job which is appreciated. Its a rare thing to be aloud to take a running dog on a shootday in the beating line and run what you want, also having the regular guns etc coming up to you telling you where they saw the fox on the 2nd drive bolt from.

Everyone knows permission is hard won but i think alot who are without dont realise just quite hard won.
